The Prep Redzone NE/IA Combine Series was a star-studded showcase featuring some of the best talent in Nebraska and Iowa. Over 120 prospects filled the Iowa West Sports Plex as they looked to sharpen their skills, compete against other elite talent, and gain exposure to the college coaches in attendance. Marty and I identified several standout prospects who we believe have the potential to play at the next level.

Here are some freshmen (incoming sophomores) who left a major lasting impression after their Combine Series performances. Check out these standout 2027 prospects.

Dubuque Senior's [player_tooltip player_id='1204423' first='Rome' last='Freeman'] showed why he was listed in PRZIA's Class of 2027 Top 15. The young 'backer looked like a player well beyond his age, showing great football IQ and very natural instincts. He was very impressive in RB/LB competition drills where he blew up several 'backs attempting to block him, showing a versatile bag of power and finesse moves. He's very disciplined when squared up 1v1 with backs and doesn't fall for shifty moves, instead attacking head-on for the sure tackle. Rome will be a big-name prospect in the upcoming seasons.

Although we only have one season of Cale at the high school level, I have to say this guy is CONSISTENT! Watching Cale's freshman tape, his Stock Up performance, and now his Combine Series showing, it's clear that he is very keen on the little parts of his game. He's detailed with his footwork and route running, making sure to limit any wasted movements. Sheets is very reliable at the catch point with strong hands and making it a point to work his way back to the ball. We only got to see Cale the receiver at the Combine Series but you should expect to see him making plays in all facets of the game for the Bergan Knights.

LeAndrew is a player who, with his upside and coaching resources at Bellevue West, will be a great prospect by his senior year! LeAndrew is listed as a linebacker but took 1v1 reps with the OL/DL group, opting to work on his pass-rushing moves. Despite being out of position for these drills, LeAndrew was able to win some reps using his speed and effective use of hands. Watching him in LB drills, Lloyd displayed solid looseness in his hips and was quick to break on the ball. I'm looking forward to seeing how LeAndrew is used in the Bellevue West defense, given his versatile skillset.

This is the second time seeing Kearney's [player_tooltip player_id='1085100' first='Adrick' last='Teichmeier'] at one of our showcases and he's earned "standout" recognition at both. What caught my eye about Adrick's game was his underrated speed and how he can stretch defenses vertically as a receiving back. He has a very lengthy frame with a long stride that allows him to accelerate quickly into his top gear. Even as a bigger back, Adrick still showed great athleticism and agility, finishing top 5 in three of the four testing drills. Adrick recorded a 4.75 40-yard dash, 8'11" broad jump, a 7.28 L-drill, and his 4.81 shuttle drill landed just outside the top five.

Here's a player I'm looking forward to seeing more of this offseason. Ankeny Centennial's [player_tooltip player_id='1207827' first='Logan' last='Crowner'] flashed some nice pass-rushing potential through a few of his 1v1 reps. Logan used a variety of swim/rip moves to disengage from linemen and was able to finish with a strong burst to break into the backfield. He possesses solid speed for his size and recorded a 4.82 40-yard dash, which was the best in his position group. Good upside with three more seasons to keep developing.

I'm looking forward to seeing how sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='1070886' first='Wyatt' last='Frey'] transitions from 6-man to 8-man football with his transfer to Lawrence-Nelson. If his performance at the Combine Series is any indication, then there shouldn't be anything to worry about next season. Despite being one of the biggest QBs of the group, Wyatt still managed to be the only one to post top 5 marks in each of the testing drills. Frey recorded a 5.07 40-yard dash, 4.57 shuttle drill, an 8'11" broad jump, and a 7.50 L-drill. He also impressed in pass drills and during routes on air. Frey displayed a strong arm that could fit the ball into tight windows and flashed the accuracy to place it right where his receiver needed it. Good looking prospect!

It was an eye-opening performance for the Millard South youngster. Despite being one of the smaller receivers in the group, he made up for that with his crisp route running and ability to create separation from defenders. Very diverse route tree. He displays great start/stop ability and is very explosive through his change of direction. It seemed like Schneider caught everything thrown his way, showing off his strong hands and great concentration while completing the catch process. Landon recorded impressive runs of 4.78 in the shuttle drill and 7.44 in the L-drill. Hidden gem in the 2027 class!

The Griffin youngster opened some eyes at the Combine Series, even earning one of the coach-selected reps at the end of the camp. Quentin has been high on our radar since before the start of his freshman season and has continued to captivate our attention since. Watching Malone run through drills it's clear to see the agility and quickness he possesses as he runs through cutting drills and moving through his change of direction. Malone had a great testing session posting times of a 4.78 40-yard dash, 4.87 shuttle drill, and a 7.71 L-drill. Quentin's receiving ability really impressed me as he consistently sprung free against opposing ‘backers and was able to get downfield quickly for some deep receptions. Quentin should be a pivotal player for the Griffins for the next three seasons!

Yup, the running back group was pretty good! Central's [player_tooltip player_id='212374' first='Kylonn' last='Haynie'] was another talented ball carrier in attendance and showed us why he holds an early offer from Nebraska. Kylonn's bread and butter is his ability to be physical and take on and dish out contact. He runs with good pad level and keeps a low center of gravity for when he needs to drive through a defender. One thing that caught my attention when watching Kylonn is his receiving ability out of the backfield. He showed good footwork and the ability to get open with his route running. Haynie further showed why he's one of the best prospects in Nebraska's 2027 class.

This Lincoln Southwest 2027 group has a chance to be special for the Silver Hawks, and Maclain is primed to be a big contributor to that. Maclain started on the offensive line for Lincoln Southwest but decided to showcase his defensive skillset at the Combine Series. Milius is a tall, lean, lengthy player with a quick get-off and great bend. Maclain had several great reps in 1v1s where he could flash his ability to convert speed to power when making contact. Milius posted the second-best 40-yard dash mark among defensive linemen with a 4.95 and was one of two players to run it under 5 seconds. It's scary to think where Maclain could be in three seasons as he continues to fine-tune his craft and grow into his frame!

Zyaire was the tallest competitor in-house for the Combine Series, measuring in at a towering 6'7". The incoming sophomore's measurables and super high ceiling make him a very interesting prospect to watch. He uses his strength and lengthy reach very well to maintain separation from defenders and can stonewall them at the line of scrimmage. I expect Zyaire to make some recruiting buzz in the upcoming seasons as he continues to develop and convert his potential into on-field results. Keep a close eye on this one!
