Nebraska '27 Rankings Update | Newcomers to Know

The 2027 Class Rankings received its winter update, which brought over 100 new names to our radar and a huge overhaul to the rankings.. To continue coverage of the latest update, I will be highlighting some of the new names in the rankings. Some of these players made the jump from the watchlist to our rankings list, and others are completely new names that emerged throughout the season.   Full list <a href="https://prepredzone.com/nebraska/rankings/2027-rankings/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">HERE</a>   Here are five players who made their rankings debut in this update:   <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />    <a href="https://x.com/DaxPeterson1" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">(@DaxPeterson1)</a>   York's [player_tooltip player_id='1845150' first='Dax' last='Peterson'] checks in as the highest-ranked newcomer to the rankings, landing at #15. The Duke's towering tight end stands out immediately with his lengthy 6'7" and 215-pound frame with a massive catch radius. Dax emerged as the leading receiver on a run-heavy offense, finishing the year with 15 catches for 253 yards and three touchdowns. When watching Dax's tape, I was impressed with his inside-outside versatility. He fits best as an in-line tight end who can run-block and be an effective target over the middle of the field. Peterson can also be moved to the outside, where he can take advantage of size mismatches while also having the speed to slip past defenders and hit the home run ball. Great at winning contested catches and has some wheels for adding yardage after the catch. Willing blocker who uses good leverage and technique to generate a solid push at the LOS. Some colleges have already begun to take notice; it'll only be a matter of time before some offers start to arrive.      <a href="https://x.com/TalonDaharsh4" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">(@TalonDaharsh4)</a>   The Gretna defense is one I project to be among the best in Class B next season, as they return an excellent core of players, including safety [player_tooltip player_id='1818746' first='Talon' last='Daharsh']. Talon had a breakout junior campaign in which he recorded 54 tackles, 2.5 TFLs, four interceptions, and a forced fumble. Talon's instincts and speed to close on the ball allow him to cover massive chunks of the field and make plays from anywhere. He does a great job reading the offense and diagnosing plays with excellent ball skills to force turnovers or break up passes at the catch point. Fluid in coverage with quick feet and loose hips, allowing him to change direction effortlessly. Talon also showed that, in addition to being solid in coverage, he is a willing run defender who can fly downhill and prevent running backs from bouncing runs to the outside. Daharsh also contributed 31 receptions, 405 yards, and two touchdowns on offense, with a chance to take on a bigger role in his senior season. Great two-way athlete who should be on your list of "get on campus" guys this spring.      <a href="https://x.com/Kade_Jones73" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">(@Kade_Jones73)</a>   Sutton [player_tooltip player_id='2070845' first='Kade' last='Jones'] was a nice surprise as he opened some eyes at the NE/IA Stock Up showcase. Jones had a strong showing at our showcase and caught our attention even more when I threw on his film. Kade has next-level size at 6'3" and 270 pounds with room to continue filling out his frame. I was really impressed with the bend Kade showed, as he stayed consistent with his pad level when shooting out of his stance and when engaged with defenders. Once engaged, Kade has the strength in his hands to win the hand battle and can generate a strong push with his powerful base to drive defenders off the ball. Good footwork and mobility as he executes various blocks, and he can climb to the second level to seal off LBs. Plays through the whistle and is always looking to finish his blocks in the dirt. Big, physical OL from small-town Nebraska... get after him ASAP!      <a href="https://x.com/Charlie_Lyons20" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">(@Charlie_Lyons20)</a>   Roncalli Catholic's [player_tooltip player_id='2055000' first='Charlie' last='Lyons'] is another prospect who stood out at our Stock Up showcase and made a solid debut in the rankings. Charlie ended his junior season with 63 tackles, six TFLs, a sack, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. What really stands out about Charlie's tape is his motor. He plays at one speed from snap to whistle and is tireless with his pursuit. Lyons displays great timing when shooting his gaps, allowing him to explode through holes and make tackles at/behind the line of scrimmage. He's a sure tackler when he gets to the ball carrier, using a good combination of technique and physicality to ensure he makes the stop. Charlie has solid size and length with room to continue filling out his frame at the next level.      <a href="https://x.com/AlexHolzapfel0" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">(@AlexHolzapfel0)</a>   I'll finish this with a third Stock Up standout in [player_tooltip player_id='2065788' first='Al' last='Holzapfel'], who will join the Millard North Mustangs next season. Although Al doesn't have a ton of film, it was clear to see his upside during his reps at the showcase. He's a very lengthy player who could play in several spots along the front seven, including edge, OLB, and even inside linebacker, depending on how he continues to develop physically. Holzapfel plays with good twitch coming off the ball, which helps him shake off blockers at the line of scrimmage.
