The circuit of back-to-back-to-back weekends on the road has come to a conclusion, as I was fortunate to attend Coach Nick Pennisi's PSR BIG Camp Series on Saturday, May 11. This marks the second year in a row that I covered the event. Pennisi has grown his significantly from last year. With over 400 prospects registered for the event, I had my work cut out for me to identify and scout some of the event's standouts. As I feverishly wrote notes, here are my scouting notes from the position group disclosed in the subject line.

Scout's Notebook: Offensive Line

Aside from having one helluva name, [player_tooltip player_id='1276742' first='Demetrios' last='Vonderlinden'] from Fort Lee is a prospect that looks to have the Bridgemen crossing the GWB into Jersey and avoiding congestion pricing. I commend the big man's aggression. He really looked to force the issue, bring physicality, beat his man to the spot, and finish his blocks throughout the day. As Vonderlinden's speed of his feet improve, he will have an easier time and has the potential to dominate..... I had the opportunity prior to camp season to watch [player_tooltip player_id='1218844' first='Dylan' last='Grau'] from Cherokee as part of my Web Gem series. That said, I recall wanting to see him more in pass protection and and clean up his footwork. This weekend I had the opportunity to see that he took those words to heart. Grau was surprisingly agile for young man of his size. He showed quicker-than-expected feet to protect the edge against speed rushers, while utilizing his size to control the gap to his inside.

Delbarton's [player_tooltip player_id='910200' first='Max' last='Markho'] appears to be a prospect that is all-the-way bought in to the strength program at Delbarton. I had an opportunity to learn from their head strength & conditioning coach at a clinic this offseason as he explained how and when the lift. Markho appears to be a big beneficiary of this. Markho possessed perhaps the camp's best ability to bend - which I venture to say is attributed to their their strength & conditioning program. Additionally, Markho is a prospect who is well coached, following through with all of his blocks and finishing all of his reps...... Keeping with the theme of bend, if Markho was perhaps the best "bender," [player_tooltip player_id='1276746' first='Ben' last='Vander Eems'] of Ramapo was right behind him. Taller by about two inches, Vander Eems got low and enjoyed the knitty-gritty aspect of trench work. Vander Eems did an exceptional job of his body - both his back's arch and his hands - upward and into the chest of his matchup. These tendency, combined with his bend, made him a touch matchup all afternoon long.

Paul VI's [player_tooltip player_id='1276749' first='Javon' last='Gordon'] is also blessed with a tremendous set of feet. Something that I am hard-pressed to witness at camps, Gordon showed a distinct ability to alternate between his kick step and his power down. Perhaps what made this most impressive to me was the near-flawless fluidity in which Gordon alternated between the two techniques..... I finally got a chance to take a look at Millville's [player_tooltip player_id='829415' first='Marcus' last='Offer']. Offer's success is clearly beings and ends with this base. His base was steady throughout competition and also balanced. This balance allowed him to withstand bull rushes, speed rushes, and anything in between. Offer neither teetered or leaned, which allowed him to anchor or drive whenever appropriate.

[player_tooltip player_id='1276740' first='Jayce' last='Grays'], a rising sophomore from Glassboro, was a prospect that did numerous things well. First, Grays showcased the requisite ability to bend - a necessity to succeed. Additionally, Grays gets into his kick step with urgency and importance, which I am sure his quarterback appreciates. As he moves throughout competition Grays maintained a sturdy and steady base that neither narrowed nor elongated. Lastly, Grays was rather handsy, firmly grabbing cloth on his matchups chest..... [player_tooltip player_id='689917' first='Philip' last='Hatfield'] from Winslow closes us out today. Without glossing over the importance of his ability to bend, Hatfield stepped very well - his steps were quick and light, yet powerful. Hatfield apparently understands how to win his matchups, too. One spin he took his matchup was lower than him and was initially winning. Hatfield, instinctively, chopped his arms down and pinned the lower man - using his leverage against him and flattening him in the process. On this same rep, Hatfield widened his base just a bit to get lower and avoid getting walked back before he hit the chop.
