The annual C4 Red River Shootout took place in Durant on Saturday morning and afternoon. The Durant-based tournament has been one of the best one-day tourneys over the last few years and it lived up to the hype again. Prep Redzone Oklahoma was on site from start to finish and we got a chance to see some great football from Oklahoma and some of the surrounding states. In this breakdown, we take a look at some of the standouts from Sooner 7’s Alpha squad that won the 18U championship.
Sapulpa 2025 wide receiver Dakota Chaney Dakota Chaney 5’10” | 170 lbs | ATH Sapulpa | 2025 State OK continues to be one of the top wide receivers at every 7v7 tournament. Chaney has been playing with Sooner 7 all offseason and it seems like every time we watch them in person, he is routinely one of the more productive receivers for their squad. Whether it’s their Alpha team like on Saturday or their Bravo team, Chaney finds a way to make a massive impact. On Saturday in particular, Chaney made some very tough catches. He has solid speed and quickness that provides separation but on Saturday, he showcased the ability to make those tough catches in traffic.
Highlights
2025 defensive back Derreon Overstreet Derreon Overstreet 5’11” | DB Booker T Washington | 2025 OK is the first of two standouts from Booker T Washington on Saturday. Overstreet was outstanding at the cornerback position throughout the day on Saturday when we were watching. He made multiple pass breakups and he’s continuing to build on his solid offseason. Overstreet was one of the top performers in our Prep Redzone 7v7 tournament at the beginning of March. It’s hard to really stand out strictly for the defensive side of the ball in 7v7 tournaments. But Overstreet made it look easy at times on Saturday. He had a solid performance and is a name to watch.
Muskogee 2025 signal caller Jamarian Ficklin Jamarian Ficklin 6’1″ | 180 lbs | QB Muskogee | 2025 State OK is the state’s best quarterback and he looked the part once again on Saturday. Ficklin delivered some absolute strikes down the stretch as Sooner 7 Alpha made their run to the title. The most impressive play came late in the championship game when their opponent brought a blitz and Ficklin had to avoid taking a sack and while sprinting towards the sideline, the Muskogee standout delivered a strike in the back of the end zone. We’ve said this a few times this offseason, but Ficklin is going to be the favorite for PRZ-OK Player Of The Year heading into the 2024 season.
Booker T Washington 2026 standout Tahkari Bethel Tahkari Bethel 6’0″ | WR Booker T Washington | 2026 OK has absolutely dominated in the last two 7v7 tournaments we’ve seen him play in. Bethel is a 2026 name that is on the rise this offseason and we really like his potential moving forward. This weekend, Bethel was an absolute star on the offensive side of the ball. Bethel became his team’s big play threat down the field. He emerged as the top target for Ficklin when Sooner 7 needed a big play. And Bethel delivered when they went to him. He made some outstanding catches on Saturday. We’re looking forward to seeing more of him this spring with the pads on.
