Fairmont Senior receiver Navaughn Jones Navaughn Jones 5’11” | 170 lbs | WR Fairmont Senior | 2025 State WV ranks just outside of our Top 75 at #76 overall and is the 12th-best pass catcher in the 2025 class. The 5’11 170 junior was a bit of an unsung player for the Polar Bears in 2023 with Gavin Michael Gavin Michael 6’1″ | 165 lbs | DB Fairmont Senior | 2024 WV and classmate Cannon Dinger Cannon Dinger 5’9″ | 165 lbs | WR Fairmont Senior | 2025 State WV getting a lot of the attention in their prolific offense. Jones is plenty talented in his own right and should have even more production in 2024 as a senior. Speed is his best attribute right now and he has plenty of it running in the 4.5 40 range with good acceleration. Jones is excellent on slants with putting his foot in the dirt and making a good break. He also has the versatility to take handoffs on jet sweeps and motions into the backfield on misdirection tosses allowing him to use his speed in the open field. Fairmont Senior will still have a lot of mouths to feed in their offense next season but you shouldn’t overlook Navaughn Jones Navaughn Jones 5’11” | 170 lbs | WR Fairmont Senior | 2025 State WV .
I really like the potential and upside of Man offensive lineman Houston Ellis Houston Ellis 6’2″ | 300 lbs | OL Man | 2025 State WV who enters our 2025 Rankings as the #82 overall player and the #13 ranked OL. The 6’2 300 guard was a PRZ WV First Team All-State selection this season and should return as one of the top big men at the Class A level in 2024. It’s always tough to judge linemen talent at the small school level given the level of competition in the trenches there, but Ellis could start for a lot of teams in the state. He has good athleticism for his size and shows it when he’s pulling and blocking in space and getting to the second level of the defense. Man will also line him up as a fullback in their heavy packages at times showcasing his athleticism even further. Ellis is a physical run blocker who had 30 pancakes this season as a junior and has great feet. He’s still a raw prospect in some areas but don’t overlook this big man in the smallest classification in WV.

Parkersburg South running back Eli Bartley is primed for a huge breakout senior season in 2024 after backing up one of the state’s best backs in Gage Wright Gage Wright 6’0″ | 200 lbs | RB Parkersburg South | 2024 State WV this year. Bartley should be the Patriots’ go-to guy next season and showed a lot of good things in spot duty as a junior. He totaled over 1,000 all-purpose yards this season as a running back, receiver, and return man while also being the 6th-leading tackler on defense as a DB. Bartley may be ranked as an ATH in the future given how versatile he is in their offense but he’s a natural playmaker at the running back position. He has very good top-end speed and is very hard to catch when he gets in the open field. Bartley’s versatility and potential to break out in 2024 warranted a Top 85 overall ranking and the #10 ranked running back in the 2025 class.

The Grafton Bearcats went winless in 2024 and are 1-19 the past two seasons but they have a very nice receiver in Dillan America Dillan America 6’3″ | 175 lbs | WR Grafton | 2025 State WV who shouldn’t be overlooked because of team success. The 6’3 170 receiver saw a big jump in production this season leading the Bearcats in receiving with 842 yards and 8 touchdowns on 72 catches. America is one of the more well-rounded receivers in the 2025 class and is a quality player in all facets of the position. He has good size and speed on deep balls but can also go up and snag tough contested catches. America can create separation on intermediate routes and can make plays after the catch as well. He’s a versatile receiver who’s ahead of schedule compared to a lot of receivers in the state in this class from a developmental standpoint. He has the chance to jump up in our rankings after another very good season in 2024.

We fully anticipated ranking Woodrow Wilson’s Devin Richardson Devin Richardson 6’3″ | 170 lbs | QB Woodrow Wilson | 2025 State WV as an ATH, but he showed a lot of good things at quarterback to warrant a QB ranking. He may eventually move to ATH but for now, he’ll be considered one of the top quarterbacks returning in 2024. Richardson is a long athlete at 6’3 170 who didn’t showcase how good of an athlete he is in his junior film focusing primarily on his passing. For being a first-year starter in a Wing-T system, Richardson had very solid mechanics for the position and may just have a bright future at quarterback. I thought his dropbacks were smooth and his throwing mechanics didn’t look out of place. You could see him going through his reads at times and being patient in the pocket. Another off-season of development should see an increase in his QB abilities putting him in a position to play quarterback at the next level.

I fully expect Huntington receiver Taviun Chandler Taviun Chandler 6’4″ | 170 lbs | WR Huntington | 2025 State WV to make a big jump in our rankings after a more productive senior season but the Highlanders had a lot of mouths to feed in 2023 including two D1 signees at the position. 6’3 170 long athlete who is having a solid start to his season on the hardwood for the Highlanders. Limited film and production in 2023 as a junior so we are taking a bit of a flyer on him, but you can see the potential he has as an athlete. Chandler was also a quality and willing blocker on film which you like to see from an unselfish player who isn’t getting the ball as much as he probably would like. The Highlanders will return some other very good pass catchers but the graduation of Wayne Harris Wayne Harris 5’11” | 170 lbs | WR Huntington | 2024 State WV and Malik McNeely Malik McNeely 6’4″ | 185 lbs | WR Huntington | 2024 State WV opens the door for Chandler to see an increase in production and playing time in 2024.
Mingo Central offensive lineman Logan Hurley Logan Hurley 6’4″ | 300 lbs | OL Mingo Central | 2025 State WV is a raw player in the 2025 class but has a lot of upside and tools that make him an intriguing prospect. The 6’4 300 big man was a PRZ WV Honorable Mention All-State selection this season and should use his momentum from his junior season to take the next step in his development in 2024. Hurley plays left tackle for the Miners but I think he translates best as a guard at the next level. When you watch his film you see flashes of what he could potentially become in the future and has a high ceiling as a prospect. You obviously can’t teach size which Hurley has plenty of and that alone will get him some college looks. While he didn’t show elite athleticism on film at this point of his career, moving to guard in college may showcase his abilities better and allow him to feel more comfortable. Hurley can be dominant at times in the running game and when he plays with good technique he can really move people around. If he puts the work in the off-season working on his fundamentals and technique it should pay off in a big way for his senior season and reflect in our rankings and college interest.

A similar story as our previously mentioned big man is Buckhannon-Upshur’s Daren Daugherty Daren Daugherty 6’3″ | 330 lbs | OL Philip Barbour | 2025 State WV who ranks in the Top 15 of offensive linemen and a Top 100 player in the 2025 class. The 6’3 330 guard is a mountain of an athlete who performs very well in the Buccaneers’ run-heavy offense. While his athleticism and feet won’t blow you away, Daugherty makes up for it with physical strength and power and spends ample time in the weight room. He’s a true road grader and bulldozer at right guard. The only way you’re getting past him is if you can beat him with quickness which is tough to do with how wide he is. Athleticism makes his ceiling a little lower than some other offensive linemen in the class, but Daugherty is a prospect that D2 schools should be all over.

Weir athlete Damir Mowder Damir Mowder 6’1″ | 215 lbs | TE Weir | 2025 State WV is someone who has always had a high ceiling as a prospect and the production is beginning to start to match his upside. Mowder had a huge role in the upset of Scott in the Class AA quarterfinals to propel the Red Riders to the semis. They were able to throw the ball around more this season which really benefitted Mowder’s game and got the ball in his hands more. He’s a great-looking athlete at 6’2 195 who’s built well from a physical standpoint. He could end up playing receiver or linebacker at the next level but will be ranked as a WR at this time. Mowder has a lot of raw potential and upside as a prospect and is someone who may be under the radar and underrated at this current juncture of his career. If he takes the next step in 2024 he could really see his stock rise in both the rankings and college recruitment.
One of the best players in Class A this season was Summers County ATH Ryan Oliveros Ryan Oliveros 5’10” | 170 lbs | ATH Summers County | 2025 State WV who had a monster junior season for the Bobcats with big-time production. Oliveros did it all as a junior totaling 1,170 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns along with nearly 500 rushing yards and 6 more scores. He finished the season with just under 2,000 all-purpose yards as a junior along with starting on defense as a DB. Oliveros may eventually move to WR in our rankings but with how versatile he is as an athlete he’ll be ranked as an ATH for now. While he may not be facing the highest level of competition there is in the state, his athleticism and playmaking ability translate to any level of football, and he would make plays for bigger schools too. Summers County will move up a class to the new Class AA and if Oliveros maintains this level of production against stiffer competition he may see his name rise in our rankings.
There aren’t many athletes that have the pleasure of being 6’6, and Poca offensive lineman Rome Bragg Rome Bragg 6’6″ | 285 lbs | OL Poca | 2025 State WV was blessed with elite size. If he had more athleticism and quicker feet he’d be very high in our 2025 rankings but size alone will get him some college looks and a Top 100 ranking. I think he’ll be a long guard at the next level which will protect his athleticism a bit. If you really work with him developing and improving his fundamentals and athleticism you’ll be getting a steal of a prospect who could turn into a big-time offensive lineman in the future. Bragg has traits that you can’t teach and is a prospect that D2 schools in the state should be looking at. He has the potential to be molded into a very good player in time with some patience and development.
I would anticipate Cabell Midland WR/DB Myles Meadors Myles Meadors 5’11” | 170 lbs | DB Cabell Midland | 2025 State WV making a big jump in our 2025 Rankings after the 2024 season but is already considered a Top 100 player in the class. Meadors was an Honorable Mention All-State selection by the WVSWA as a junior and is only scratching the surface of his potential. He was a bit overshadowed this season by some big-time players on the Cabell Midland roster including some D1 signees but should see more of a spotlight in 2024. Meadors may move to DB or ATH in our rankings eventually and is a quality player in all three phases of the game. You can tell when watching his junior film that if he has a bigger role in the offense next season he may have a breakout year for the Knights. Meadors has all the athleticism to be a very good prospect and with more production his stock should skyrocket.
