This is a class that doesn’t have a ton of high-end D1 locks yet, but it does have dozens of players I think could develop into that. The top 5 consists of five players who have the potential to be Division 1 locks.
2027 Top 5
Dakota comes in as our #1 player in these initial rankings, and it’s clear to see why. He’s someone who holds multiple B1G 10 offers and someone who played a significant role on a state-championship team. Dakota has an amazing release and long stride that allows him to get to the top of his routes quickly. His ball tracking and catch radius also shows up on tape. Dakota is a rare breed of athlete and he has all the tools to remain at the #1 spot and frankly develop into one of the best skill players in the country.
Holden doesn’t currently hold any offers that I know of, but after his performance at our Prep Redzone camp a month ago, I’m confident he has the potential to be a serious B1G 10 prospect. Alongside a few D1 talents, Holden was on-par or even better in overall skill. I was extremely impressed with his route running, overall receiver skills, and he has the frame to become an elite tight end prospect. Sure, there are several aspects that Holden can improve, but there’s no doubt that he’s far ahead of the curve.
Highlights
Jabin may be the next great dual-threat Quarterback in Michigan. Just turn on the film. He showed tons of flashes playing in the Elite catholic league. He has obvious arm talent, throws a beautiful spiral, and has some moments of excellent accuracy. There are some fundamental things he needs to clean up, but that should come with time. His legs add another dimension to his game that cannot be ignored. He’s lethal in read-option situations, and he has good speed in the open field. With three more years in the Catholic league, Jabin should be a battle-tested high-end quarterback prospect by the end of his high school career.

Cartwright is another tight end type with phenomenal upside. His height is ideal at 6’4″, and his long limbs make his upside even better. Anthony has yet to blow me away with his receiving game, but there’s no doubt the potential is there. I’d like to see more explosiveness off the line of scrimmage, and better open-field ability, and I don’t think his current film shows off many difficult catches. He does have several good blocking highlights, and I love his overall physicality. Anthony could bulk up and be an incredible in-line tight end, or he could be a phenomenal 6’4″ physical receiver.

I wasn’t able to find a ton of film on Chad, but from what I’ve heard, he’s a baller. The Kentucky offer in addition to last offseason’s productivity and success makes him one of the most intriguing freshman prospects in Michigan. His 8th grade highlights below show that he dominated the competition, and I hope he continues to improve throughout his high school career. If he does, he’s a shoo-in Power 5 prospect.
