To continue the series, here’s my list of some under the radar #TN2024 standouts in Rutherford County.
rnAt the top of my list of notable performers is Joseph Guzman Joseph Guzman 6’2″ | 230 lbs | DL Riverdale | 2024 State TN , a defensive lineman at Riverdale High School. What impresses me about Guzman is his ability to utilize his speed and strength at the line of scrimmage, proving he can slip past openings in the pocket to apply pressure on and sack the quarterback. I also like Guzman’s ability to read the pass and protect the backfield, showing off his ability to catch the rush from along the edge and make commanding stops in crucial situations. I also like Guzman’s ability to overpower the offensive line, using his physical edge to bully the opposition.

rnI am additionally impressed with Tre Johnson Tre Johnson 5’11” | 205 lbs | LB Oakland | 2024 State TN , a linebacker at Oakland High School. What stands out most about Johnson’s playstyle is his ability to read the offense like a book as well as his ability to quickly adapt. Another aspect of Johnson that made a considerable difference last season was his ability to pick up speed to catch the rush from along the edge, proving he can lock down the offense and protect the backfield. In addition to cornering playmakers before they reach the backfield, I like how Johnson can apply pressure on the gunslinger and quickly stop ground production off the snap.

rnClaiming the number three spot on my list is Brennan Mayhew Brennan Mayhew 6’2″ | 185 lbs | QB Rockvale | 2024 TN , a quarterback at Rockvale High School. What makes Mayhew so dangerous under center is his arm strength and quick release, proving he only needs a few seconds to connect with his receivers deep in the backfield. I also like Mayhew’s composure under pressure, using strong footwork to maneuver the field and find an open man down the stretch or in the endzone for the long pass. Mayhew also impresses with his precision in crucial moments, showing off his ability to hit his receivers anywhere on the field despite heavy pressure and relentless coverage down the stretch.

rnAnother skilled prospect is Timi Williams Timi Williams 6’2″ | 210 lbs | LB Rockvale | 2024 State TN , a linebacker at Rockvale High School. What I like about Williams is his ability to read the offense and contest the pass in the pocket, showing off his electric speed and ability to quickly react to pick off the quarterback. Another facet of Williams that made a considerable difference this past season was his ability to keep the offense out of the backfield, showcasing his ability to catch the rush from along the edge by giving the running back no space to work with. Williams also proved he can get to the quarterback, using his strength and physicality to escape the pocket and drop the gunslinger to the ground.

rnComing in at number five on my list is Brooks Jones Brooks Jones 6’1″ | 210 lbs | LB MTCS | 2024 TN , a linebacker at Middle Tennessee Christian High School. What impresses me about Jones is his ability to lock down the offense on the ground, showing off his ability to catch the running back from along the edge and protect the backfield. I also like how Jones can overpower the offensive line at the opportune moment, proving he can push off the opposition to catch the rush. Jones also stands out with his ability to disrupt the short pass and stop receivers from along the edge, using bursts of speed to catch and take down receivers shortly after the catch.

rnAlso worth mentioning is Seth Harris Seth Harris 6’3″ | 200 lbs | LB MTCS | 2024 TN , a linebacker at Middle Tennessee Christian High School. In addition to outstanding awareness and the ability to disrupt passing, what impresses me about Harris is his ability to pick off the quarterback and maneuver the opposition on his way to the house for the pick-six. Harris also impresses with his ability to barrel into the quarterback during the pass, showing off his ability to strip the ball away in the air and run it into the endzone. Harris also made a difference in coverage, using his versatility to attack the ball in the air and contest the pass at the perfect moment.

rnAnother senior standout is Quentin Groves Quentin Groves 6’2″ | 185 lbs | DB Siegel | 2024 TN , a defensive back at Siegel High School. What impresses me about Groves is his explosiveness in coverage and ability to read the quarterback like a book. In addition to the ability to consistently haul in interceptions, Groves stands out with his breakaway speed and durability, proving he can dodge and weave tackles to march into the endzone. Another aspect of Groves that made a difference last season was his ability to beat receivers down the stretch, showcasing his ability to stun the opposition with his physical edge as well as attack the ball in the air.

rnAlso making his presence known last season was BJ Peter, a defensive lineman at Stewart’s Creek High School. What I like about Peter’s playstyle is his overall explosiveness in the pocket, showing off his ability to slip past the offensive line and quickly catch the running back. Peter also impresses with his ability to get to the quarterback quickly off the snap, utilizing his strength and durability to bully the opposition and knock the gunslinger to the ground. I also like how Peter can disrupt and slow down the rush, proving his awareness in the pocket as well as his commanding stopping power.
