DEL CITY’S TEN PLAYERS TO WATCH
Del City senior standout Aaron Carter Aaron Carter 6’2″ | LB Del City | 2024 State OK is one of the more underrated parts of this Del City team. At the start of this season, it looked like Carter would see more playing time on the offensive side of the ball. But throughout this season, Carter has emerged as one of the better linebackers on the team. And this is a Del City defense where the strength has to be at the linebacker position. Three of the top tacklers on the team are all at the linebacker position and Carter is one of them. Carter is a 2024 prospect that we think could provide a massive impact for the Eagles in the state title game against the Titans.
On a team that has quite a few D1 commits on the offensive and defensive side of the ball, you can make the argument that senior Braelon Adamah Braelon Adamah 5’9″ | 155 lbs | DB Del City | 2024 State OK has been the X-factor of the Eagles this season. On offense, Adamah hasn’t had many opportunities to run the football but he’s made the most of those opportunities. He’s second on the team in rushing touchdowns with ten touchdowns on the ground. He’s also one of the leading tacklers on the defensive side of the ball. He’s closing in on 100 tackles for the season. Like Carter, Adamah is a 2024 prospect that should explode in the next two months.
Del City’s offense has been one of the best units in the state and it all starts up front with a strong offensive line. Leading the way has been senior Darreyl Thomas Darreyl Thomas 6’5″ | 295 lbs | OL Del City | 2024 State OK and he’s been one of the better prospects at his position in the state’s 2024 class. There’s plenty of attention on the three-headed monster that Del City has on the offensive side of the ball. But nothing happens with them unless Thomas and the Del City offensive line don’t pave the way up front. We like his continued development over the last several seasons. He should have a big game on Saturday afternoon.
Highlights
Junior defensive back D’Marion Turner D’Marion Turner 5’11” | DB Del City | 2025 State OK will play a big role in Del City’s success on Saturday afternoon. Turner was a junior prospect that Del City coaches were very excited about coming into this season. And he’s certainly lived up to the hype throughout the season. He’s tied for the lead in interceptions this season. And when we look at this match-up on paper, the Del City secondary is going to be critical against Carl Albert’s passing attack. The Titans have size and athleticism at the receiver position. Turner and the rest of the Del City secondary will look to limit their opportunities.
Del City junior linebacker Jashawn Mccalister Jashawn Mccalister 6’0″ | 165 lbs | ATH Del City | 2025 State OK has been arguably the biggest breakout star for the Eagles this season. We mentioned the linebacker position earlier with Carter and Mccalister has been arguably the most productive player on this Del City defense. He leads the team in tackles with well over 100 on the season. He also has five sacks and four interceptions and two were returned for touchdowns. Mccalister is a very good-looking athlete and the ceiling for him is very high moving forward. Whether he’s helping the front seven or dropping in coverage, he’s proven to be a playmaker.
Highlights
The first part of Del City’s “three-headed monster” is senior Ladainian Fields Ladainian Fields 6’2″ | 180 lbs | ATH Del City | 2024 State OK at the wide receiver and defensive back position. Fields is a TCU commit and he has really emerged as one of the top players in the state this fall. He’s been a two-way star for the last several seasons but he’s taken his game to new heights this season. On offense, he is hands down the top target in the passing game. He has nearly 1,300 yards and 20 touchdowns and he’s coming off a semifinal performance with 200 yards and three touchdowns. Watching Fields against the Carl Albert secondary is the marquee match-up.
Highlights
Del City sophomore Ricklan B Holmes II Ricklan B Holmes II 6’0″ | 195 lbs | LB Del City | 2026 State OK is the third and final linebacker on this breakdown. Holmes broke into the starting lineup on a very talented Del City defense last year as just a freshman. Holmes would immediately earn the attention of D1 coaches and that hasn’t slowed down. Holmes joins Mccalister as one of two players on this Del City defense with over 100 tackles this season. The Del City sophomore also leads the team in sacks with ten on the season. As the Eagles look to contain Carl Albert’s explosive offense, Holmes will attempt to cause a lot of problems for the Titans.
Part two of the “three-headed monster” is senior quarterback River Warren River Warren 6’4″ | 195 lbs | QB Del City | 2024 State OK and he has maintained the top ranking for 2024 quarterbacks for over a year now. Warren moved from McGuinness to Del City in the offseason and immediately made the Eagles a contender. And his efficiency this season has been on full display throughout the year. On the season, Warren has completed over 70 percent of his passes. He’s totaled nearly 2,500 yards and 31 touchdowns with only six interceptions. This state title match-up features the top-ranked quarterback prospects in their respective classes.
And the final part of Del City’s “three-headed monster” is Oklahoma State commit Rodney Fields Rodney Fields 6’0″ | RB Del City | 2024 State OK at the running back position. Fields has once again put up serious numbers throughout his senior season. He has nearly 1,400 yards and 20 touchdowns on the season. But the thing that we like about Fields coming into this week is the typical wear and tear. Fields has not had to shoulder the load because of sharing the backfield with Warren. He’s only averaging a little over ten carries per game. We expect that number will more than likely go up on Saturday with the state championship on the line.
Our final spotlight player to know is Del City senior Viliami Lewis Viliami Lewis 6’3″ | DL Del City | 2024 State OK and it doesn’t matter which side of the line of the scrimmage he lines up on, he provides a massive impact. On offense, he helps Thomas out by paving the way for Del City’s offense. On defense, Lewis is an incredibly disruptive player on the interior of Del City’s defensive line. When we got a chance to see Del City this season, running up the middle wasn’t much of an option. It will be strength on strength on Saturday as Lewis and the Del City front look to contain Carl Albert and their star running back, who is a power runner.
