CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY
17-1 All Time – 19th Title Appearance
For the 19th time in school history, the Carl Albert Titans are playing for a state championship. And when the Titans make it to the title game, they are as close to automatic as it gets. Carl Albert is 17-1 all time in the championship game. The only loss came back in 2008 to Booker T Washington. The Titans won five straight titles from 2016-2020. After losing in the semifinals in 2021, the Titans returned to the 5A mountain top last season with a championship win over McAlester. The Titans have been the 5A favorite this year since walking off the UCO field last year.
OFFENSIVE PRODUCTION: 49.5 Points Per Game
Carl Albert’s offense has been one of the top units in the state, regardless of class this season. The Titans are averaging just shy of 50 points per game. They’ve scored at least 50 points in nearly half of their games this season. The offense is littered with playmakers that will not only be playing at the next level, but they’ll be playing at the highest power five level. The title game will provide a challenge against a stingy Del City defense.
DEFENSIVE PRODUCTION: 13.9 Points Per Game
The Carl Albert offense gets a lot of attention because of the firepower they have on that side of the ball and rightfully so. But don’t overlook this Titan defense coming into this game. The Titans are giving up nearly 14 points per game and they have a front seven that has been incredibly productive this season. They’ll need that defense to step up one more time as they face a Del City offense that has been right there with Carl Albert all season.
STAR WATCH
At this time last year, Carl Albert senior running back Xavier Robinson Xavier Robinson 6’2″ | 225 lbs | RB Carl Albert | 2024 State OK was carrying the Titans to another state championship. Following his terrific junior season, Robinson was named our Player Of The Year for the 2022 season. This year, Robinson has not had to shoulder the load near as much as we saw from him last season. But he is still very clearly one of the best running backs in the state. The Oklahoma commit has over 30 touchdowns on the ground this season and is an absolute monster to bring down in the open field. He shined bright in last year’s state title win.
#2 DEL CITY EAGLES (12-0)
Aug. 31 – Beat Booker T Washington 48-0
Sept. 7 – Beat Midwest City 53-14
Sept. 22 – Beat East Central 73-0
Sept. 29 – Beat McAlester 35-21
Oct. 6 – Beat Sapulpa 30-0
Oct. 13 – Beat Memorial 68-0
Oct. 19 – Beat Glenpool 67-0
Oct. 27 – Beat Coweta 43-14
Nov. 2 – Beat Durant 43-10
1st Round – Beat Pryor 48-8
Quarterfinals – Beat Guthrie 47-14
Semifinals – Beat Claremore 34-13
CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY
1-0 All Time – 2nd Title Appearance
For just the second time in school history, Del City is playing for the state championship. And Saturday’s game will mark their first championship game appearance in nearly five decades. The only other title game appearance came in 1976 and the Eagles won the state championship that year. Del City is looking to add another gold ball this week against their Mid-Del rival. And there’s no doubt that they are facing a team that expects to be here year in and year out. But the Eagles came into this season with state championship aspirations.
OFFENSIVE PRODUCTION: 49.1 Points Per Game
We mentioned the Del City offense being right there with Carl Albert and they are literally right there in terms of points per game. The Eagles are averaging just over 49 points per game this season. And just like the Titans, Del City’s offense is headlined by a unit that has multiple players that are going to play at at a very high level in college. In nine of Del City’s wins this season, they scored at least 40 points. They are going to be ready on Saturday.
DEFENSIVE PRODUCTION: 7.8 Points Per Game
As good as Del City’s offense has been this season, you can certainly make the argument that the defense has been better. The Eagles are giving up an eye-opening 7.8 points per game coming into Saturday’s state title clash. They’ve shut out five opponents and given up more than 14 points just once this season. Going against a Carl Albert offense averaging nearly 50 points per game, something will have to give on Saturday afternoon.
STAR WATCH
Like Carl Albert, Del City has a few players that could fit this role but we’re putting the spotlight here on senior and TCU commit Ladainian Fields Ladainian Fields 6’2″ | 180 lbs | ATH Del City | 2024 State OK after the season he’s had. First, on offense, Fields is one of the best wide receivers in the state. He backed that up once again in their semifinal win over Claremore where he could not be stopped. On defense, Fields has been one of the better ball hawks in Class 5A football for three seasons now. And with Carl Albert having some terrific wide receivers and defensive backs, the competition with Fields and those guys will be must watch football.
