Continue ReadingI first saw Henry at the Under Armour Next Camp in the spring of 2202. Even then as a player who hadn’t played a down of high school football it was easy to see that he had the traits to be an elite wide receiver. That summer Brian Hartline offered him a scholarship to play for the Ohio State Buckeyes. Fast forward to today, and Henry now has two full regular seasons of high school football under his belt he’s become the elite high school receiver that I thought he’d become. At 6’4 180 pounds Henry is a smooth athlete that creasy easy separation from defenders. He has a quick release from the line of scrimmage, and he has the speed to go vertical and get behind defenses. Beyond that he’s a great tracker and high pointer of the ball. As Chris continues to get bigger and stronger, he’s pretty much going to become un-guardable at the high school level. This summer Henry committed to be be a part of the long line of talented wide receivers to play at Ohio State. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for this young man.
Fryzel burst onto the scene this season as a major deep threat for Toledo Central Catholic. He’s a long strider who has the speed to run past defenders. Preston lines up in the slot for the Irish. Watching his film, you see a player who has a really good feel for route running. In a game versus Toledo Whitmer, he runs a post where he runs at the safety and waits until the last second to make his break leaving the defensive back in the dust and himself wide open for the big play. In a game against De La Salle he runs an out and his man leaves to pick up the scrambling quarterback and Preston peels, gets depth up the sideline, and makes himself available for a 15-yard gain. For a long strider he still possesses good short space quickness. In the running game he’s a strong blocker who does a great job of driving his man and blocking to the whistle. I’m excited to see what Fryzel can continue to put on film with what should be a deep playoff run by TCC. His recruitment should take off this offseason.

Parris is another tall wide receiver in this class that seems to be full of them. Paris lines up on the outside for the 10-1 Walsh Jesuit Warriors. At 6’4 185 he shows explosive traits with his get off and breaks. His releases are strong and allow him to get free into his routes. Once he’s into his route he’s a fluid runner. He’s a fluid pass catcher who can go up and get it. Milan is having to bid his time behind some talented upperclassmen, but I expect that he will burst onto the scene in a big way next season.
McFarland is one I’ve had my eye on since his freshman season last year. He is an explosive playmaker. He excels at getting separation from defenders. He has the speed to run by defenders even when they give a big cushion. Aaron also has a great feel for tempo and using hesitation and explosive breaks to create separation as well. He can also make the high-flying acrobatic grabs. He does a great job of high pointing and catching the ball away from his body. In the run game he’s a violent blocker who loves to dominate his man. McFarland’s play is already getting him Power 5 looks. Those looks should soon turn into offers.

There’s no doubt that it’s harder for small school players to get noticed when it comes to college recruiting. Elchert has parlayed a strong 2023 camp season into D1 G5 offers from the likes of Akron, Central Michigan, and Miami (OH) and interest from Duke. At 6’3 185, Elchert is well put together. He has legit 4.5 speed, that he uses to stretch the field vertically. He does a nice job of breaking off routes and taking advantage of the cushion that defenses give him. He’s elusive in the open field where he’s able to make yards after the catch. Seth put some good film out this offseason, and I expect him to building recruiting momentum going into next camp season.

Rogers is a fun player to watch. Explosive is an understatement when talking about, Rogers. He’s a dynamic slot receiver who can hurt a defense in a multitude of ways. He’s an explosive receiver who can get open in short spaces. That in itself makes him a hard cover. Beyond that he’s a legit 4.4 guy who can take it to the house any time he touches the ball. He lines up both on the inside and on the outside for the Rams. You’re seeing smaller receivers at the power 5 level because they possess elite speed and athleticism. Rogers definitely fits that bill and I expect that he’s going to start to get interest coming from the direction very soon.
