Continue ReadingPoints were coming in bunches for the Corunna Cavaliers, so naturally there were quite a few offensive standouts for them, but Goodrich had some solid offensive players that I’ve now gotten to see play that once again played well and proved once again that they are solid prospects for the next level. This article will highlight a few players from both offenses I enjoyed seeing on Friday night.
Wyatt Bower Wyatt Bower 6'2" | 175 lbs | ATH Corunna | 2024 State MI , QB, Corunna- This was an absolute layup. The Saginaw Valley commit absolutely showed out as I expected, slinging it to multiple receivers all over the yard. What really impressed me was his poise under pressure in the pocket. He delivered the ball on the money while taking quite a few shots. He played fairly beat up in the 2nd half, and still went out there and finished the job against a tough Goodrich defense that was getting their hits on him. I fully expect Wyatt to be a problem in the GLIAC, as he has the talent to really take over a game.
Tarick Bower Tarick Bower 6'2" | 180 lbs | WR Corunna | 2024 State MI , WR, Corunna- The other half of the dynamic duo did the damage you’d expect. What really had me surprised was how quickly he was able to read the coverage as he ran the route and found the spot only him and Wyatt knew he would be. Their connection was evident as Tarick was making play after play just flat out beating the defense at their own game. He has sure hands and runs crisp routes with ease. Much like his brother, I expect really good things from him at SVSU.
Bryce Edington Bryce Edington 5'10" | 155 lbs | ATH Corunna | 2025 State MI , WR, Corunna- Bryce is a kid I have been pretty high on since the summer. I really like what he is able to do as well, as he showed fantastic athleticism and huge ups to go get 50/50 balls. His hands were super secure and I loved the way he was able to control his body in the air to keep himself in position to secure the catch. I hope colleges start giving this kid a ring, because his ability is absolutely on par with those especially at the D2/D3 level.
Alan Mrva, OL, Corunna- Alan stood out as a really aggressive and strong lineman. I have multiple notes of him winding up with pancakes, and he was continuously finishing his blocks to the whistle. He was pretty consistent at being the first one off the ball and making contact quickly and driving his hands inside on the defender. I would love to see him continue to work on his pass blocking, but that was fairly good as well from what I saw.
Easton Phipps, QB, Goodrich- I wrote about Easton after week 1, but he stood out once again to me as he was really playing his heart out. At one point his main man went down with an injury, but he never gave up despite the deficit. His body language was still good even when the game got frustrating for them, and I was impressed with his poise. For everything he does physically as an athlete, I would say Easton showed me a lot about his character on Friday and I really appreciated that. He is an athlete who deserves a shot at the next level. He has the physical and emotional maturity to step right in as a leader quickly.
Colton Burnett, FB, Goodrich- Colton was an aggressive and physical blocker all night, and wound up getting paid off for it with a short touchdown late in this contest. He was quite good at getting right to the point of attack and creating running lanes, and he was pretty quick to the spot. As far as I could tell from watching his film before the game, he seemed to be a go to at the goal line and they showed that again on Friday night when they gave him the call to go get 6 for the Martians. I like seeing him be that go to, I would just like to see him get some more carries in other situations.
Gavin Sukop, OL, Goodrich- Another guy that really impressed me in the trenches. I have multiple notes of him being the first one off the ball, and seemed to keep great leverage and never got too high. He clearly takes the fundamentals serious, which was refreshing. I love how strong his hands were, and how mobile he seemed to be in the run game. I didn’t see his guy make very many tackles at all, as he was usually shoving his guy well out of the play. I like seeing the development out of him, and I hope he continues to hone his craft.
