The Deerfield quarterback had an opening performance for the ages. Jones accounted for over 300 total yards of offense and 5 touchdowns on his way to a 34-14 victory against DePaul Prep. What stood out most was his deep ball, as Jones threw perfectly placed balls on three passes of 30+ yards in the air. Jones threaded the needle with ease, often placing the ball directly over the outstretched arms of a DePaul Prep defensive back. Additionally, Jones was incredibly effective in the red zone and on intermediate balls while throwing on the run. The Class of 2025 signal caller burst onto the scene in this weekend’s game, throwing for more than half the total touchdowns in Friday’s game as he accounted for in his entire season a year ago.
Plumb is widely known as one of the top quarterbacks in the Land of Lincoln for the Class of 2025. For those wondering if the All-Conference QB could replicate his success from his sophomore season, Plumb went above and beyond to let the country know why he’s a highly ranked QB. Plumb threw for 332 yards and combined for 4 touchdowns in St. Charles North’s dramatic victory over Palatine. Plumb’s elite arm strength was on display all night, showing off his deep ball accuracy on vertical throws and his ability to fit the ball into tight windows when in the pocket or when throwing on the run. If Plumb continues to play this way, he may be one of the top quarterback recruits in the nation after his junior season.
Highlights
The Lake Park senior toted the rock for 29 carries against Conant, totaling 142 yards and scoring twice. Fortuna, a 6’0 180 lbs running back, was nearly impossible to stop near the goal line. The shift and powerful back was able to score twice from inside the 5, putting his head down and bulldozing into the end zone. However, Fortuna wasn’t just good on short yardage. He broke off multiple explosive plays when running between the tackles or hitting the perimeter on outside zone runs. He showcased his vision, balance, and agility all night in Lake Parks 28-7 win over the Cougars.
Highlights
It’s no surprise that one of the nation’s top wide receivers had a strong opening night, as Taylor totaled 134 yards and a touchdown in Geneva’s 35-0 win over Metea Valley. 80 of those yards came on a bubble screen, as Taylor was able to break multiple tackles, regain his balance, and show off his blazing speed on the way to the end zone.. Taylor was nearly impossible to tackle all of Friday, as his yards after the catch were impressive on all 5 of his receptions. Taylor is poised for a massive junior season as he continues to see Power 5 offers roll in.
Highlights
The Class of 2025 wide receiver started off his second season on varsity with a bang. Trimble, a 6’1 170 lbs junior from Mount Zion, amassed 174 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns in Friday’s contest vs Limestone. What’s even more impressive is that he did it on 5 receptions in only 2 quarters of play. Trimble showed off his blazing speed from the beginning of the game, stretching the field vertically in the pass game and taking multiple screens for big gains. Additionally, he impressed with his blocking on the perimeter and at safety on defense. Good luck catching Trimble in the open field, as this rising junior’s stock is soaring after week 1.
