There will always be a place for wide receiver’s with length that allow for a quarterback to throw up a prayer, in the hopes they’ll be on the receiving end of it. Below are five New Jersey wide receiver’s with long builds that can be an option for a quarterback under distress at any time.
– Just one of the very dangerous skill position players on a Brick City Lions team that won the AYF National Championship a year ago
– Has grown considerably since I saw him in December 2022 and is now listed at 5-foot-11 and 155 pounds. Complete with long arms and limbs, which creates a nice window for his quarterback’s
– There are a number of ATH’s on Brick City that line up at wide receiver (like Xavier Rodriguez Xavier Rodriguez 6’0″ | 160 lbs | ATH Delbarton | 2028 NJ ) that play other positions, but Lopez Jr. jumps out to me as the most natural pass-catcher in the blue, sliver and black
Highlights
– Of the five receivers in this write up, Jones is listed as the tallest and longest of the bunch – stretching out to 6-foot-3 and 150 pounds as he’s set to start his eighth grade year
– As you can imagine, the biggest take away from his game is that he’s a big time vertical threat down field. Having more than just a handful of inches on the majority of the defensive back’s tasked with covering him, all a quarterback has to do is throw it up to him
– While he certainly makes the biggest splash on the offensive side of the ball, he can also play free safety. Doesn’t have elite speed at this point, but can cover a lot of ground with just a few strides. How much weight he can add and his level of physicality will go a long way to determining how far he goes
– Much like Jo’siah Jones Jo’siah Jones 6’3″ | 160 lbs | WR NJ (listed above), Smith is a kid who gets it done on both sides of the ball. While I have him listed as a wide receiver right now, I like what I’ve seen in pre-season clips of him as a defensive back as well
– Standing 6-foot-1 and weighing every bit of 150 pounds, Smith will be lining up for Silk City this season, one of the top programs in New Jersey
– The biggest thing that jumps off the screen at me is how physical he is. Whether it be taking a screen in the slot and breaking tackles as he trecks upfield or hand fighting to get open with the ball in the air, he’s a tough dude to engage with on the field
Highlights
– Jones is the final wide receiver prospect in this write up and I’ve watched him develop nicely over the last two or three seasons, now up to 5-foot-10 and 145 pounds
– Jones will be suiting up for the Matawan Huskies again this year and continues to be a part of a very strong core group of players that has launched the Huskies into the conversation of the top youth programs in New Jersey
– Jones is a re-class prospect that has started to transform his body from a long, skinny kid to a legitimate wide receiver prospect coming out of middle school. He’s attended two Prep Redzone Next camps and has come back a better player at each one. The speed and route running has always been there, but now he’s adding in some strength and more physicality as well
