First we will review offensive and defensive prospects that shined during the combine, athletes who appear physically ready to play college football, and conclude with positional breakdowns of the talent on-hand. These breakdowns are only from my subjective on-site observations. They do not take into consideration film, highlights, or anything else.
Incase you missed any event coverage, here are the articles currently published related to the AVC Mega Football Camp:
Rose, also an outstanding defensive back from Union City, apparently can kick the ball pretty well too. I noticed that Rose tended to be a toe ticker; however, this does not stop him from getting the job done. He made kicks with ease with the ball placed on the 25 yard line and in.
Hilsinger is more of a boot slinger. The Roxbury product sunk a 45-yard field goal right down the middle with about 10 yards to spare. He consistently hit from this range on either hash. Keep in mind, this was a college field and thus college uprights. Hilsinger seems like automatic red zone points for Roxbury this fall.
It is always a thrill for me to watch prospects I watched on film in person. Joyce was well worth the wait. Easily the biggest body amongst the specialists, Joyce had the big leg to match. Joyce had one of the best ranges of all the kickers, with the ability to hit a 50 yard field goal. Many of his kicks were on the money, however keep in mind this is an extremely long kick for a high school prospect – a kick many pros do not hit routinely. I expect Joyce to continue to develop, especially since the kicks he took on the day were done using college uprights.
Consistency is key for Bartolomeo, Bergen Catholic’s placekicker. He was an absolute methodical machine, sinking anything 40-yards or in with ease. His mechanics and process was as if it was a carbon copy with each and every kick he took. Much of his success happened from the middle of the field, however he did show the ability to hit from either college hash as well.
