From the north to the south, there are talented players in every inch of The Garden State. Largely dominated by the private schools in North Jersey and South Jersey, with private schools in Philadelphia and New York looking in as well, the talented pre-high school players typically get identified earlier than a lot of other regions. The players mentioned below will be off to both public and private schools, but the talent they bring to the table is clear. Here’s a look.
Vasquez will be at Bergen Catholic next year for high school ball and is intriguing prospect in this 2027 class. He’s a three-sport athlete; In addition to football, he was also a member of the North Jersey Junior Basketball League-winning Dumont Huskies and his best sport, is probably baseball. There’s no questioning his athletic body type, or frame, at 6-foot-1 and 155 pounds. Though, it will be interesting to see how he develops on the football field. He’s a bit of a tweener at this point, with a wide receiver build but not the speed of one yet. Displays dependable hands and the length/flexibility to catch it off his shoelaces or go up and get it. I’m going to list him as a Tight End and we’ll see how development goes.
The name Roman Coney Roman Coney 5’8″ | 170 lbs | RB St. Augustine Prep | 2027 State NJ kept coming up in conversations with various people in New Jersey as a running back to try and see live. While I never did get the opportunity to watch him play live, I am blown away from the film and stats I’ve seen from him. A verified 5-foot-8 and 170 pounds, he’s box squatting over 400 pounds and his 4.4 speed in the forty makes him a special running back prospect for only being in the class of 2027. He’s well-put tother and runs just as hard, as he does fast. Ideally he stretches out another inch or two and keeps his phenomenal speed and strength. He should have no problem getting early attention from P5 programs. Coney will be at St. Augustin Prep in the fall.
Simpkins is a player that I’ve really started to come around on, the more I’ve watched of him throughout this year. He’s listed at 5-foot-10 and 160 pounds (unverified) but I think they may be a stretch. He certainly plays the game with passion and offers a lot of value for his ability to be moved around to fit specific schemes or situations. Played a lot of linebacker this year, but also had film showing him with his hand in the dirt at various positions across the defensive line. However, depending on how he develops he could slide back into the secondary if needed. He’ll be at West Depftford High School next year and I’m interested to see how his game changes over the next four years.

Off to perennial powerhouse Don Bosco Prep for high school ball, Phillips is going to be a very nice piece for the Ironmen. Right at the 6-foot, 165-pound mark with great hands and the ability to pick up nice chunks of yards both in the screen game and downfield. With his muscular build and length, I wouldn’t him out ending up as a safety in the long run. Listed as an Athlete on the gridiron, the scariest thing is that his best sport is baseball. He’s going to be a good one to watch in both sports, over the next four years.

Alvarez is one of those prospects that keeps me on my toes and humbles me, because I’m not sure why it took me so long for me to find out about him. He’s going to be a really, really good player over the next four years at Don Bosco Prep. Between his size (6-foot, 150) and ball skills, he’s going to be a difference-maker on both sides of the ball. You can line him up at either X or Z and the deep ball should be an option against most competition. On the defensive side of the ball, I like him (at this stage in development) as either a corner or a safety. There’s a lot to be really excited about with this kid.
