The 2023 football season is right around the corner and at the conclusion of spring practices across Oklahoma, it’s a perfect time to update the prospect rankings! We started this week with the state’s 2026 class and went from a Top 25 to a Top 50. If you missed that update, you can check out the list right here! Throughout the week, we’re diving deep into the rankings with prospect breakdowns. We’re discussing why these players are already on our radar and already on the radar for the next level. Keep it locked in throughout the week as we break down more 2026 prospects. And check back each Monday this month for a new ranking update! Next week, we’ll be updating the 2025 class.
In this breakdown, we’re putting a spotlight on four prospects that made the biggest jumps in the recent ranking update. Granted, when you’re going from a Top 25 to a Top 50, you’re not going to see a massive jump from any prospect. All four of these prospects ranged from six to nine spots. But we’re breaking down what has stood out to us about their play on the field. Later today, we’re putting a spotlight on five of the top newcomers to the latest ranking update!
Booker T Washington’s 2026 offensive lineman Brooks Barron Brooks Barron 6’4″ | OL Owasso | 2026 State OK leads off the stock risers as he moves up seven spots in the latest ranking update and jumps into the top ten for the overall rankings. Barron had a really good freshman campaign with the Hornets and we got a chance to see Barron a few weeks ago at the Claremore team camp. We were incredibly impressed with Booker T Washington’s offensive line as a whole and think it has the potential to be one of the better units in 6A-2 this fall. But Barron impressed us with his ability to play a few different positions from right tackle to the interior at one of the guard positions. Barron is already an impressive looking lineman and we first heard about him around this time last year. Before his freshman season even began, there was some hype around Barron coming into high school and he’s lived up to it so far.
As we mentioned last fall during our first 2026 breakdowns, Bixby 2026 linebacker Cord Nolan Cord Nolan 6’1″ | 185 lbs | TE Bixby | 2026 State OK was the very first 2026 prospect we watched during a game. Because it was the very first game of the season as Bixby opened the year against Owasso in August. Nolan was a game-wrecking linebacker that night and he continued to have a very strong freshman campaign. Now, as he goes into his sophomore season, he is apart of a Bixby front seven that is going to be hands down the strength of the Spartan defense. He has other talented linebackers around him and that’s going to free him up to be that game-wrecker that we watched last fall. But there’s also a twist with Nolan coming into this season. He could end up playing some tight end and quite a bit of offense as well. We saw it very sporadically last year but quite a bit this spring, adding another wrinkle to his game.
Highlights
Norman North 2026 standout Mason James Mason James 5’11” | 155 lbs | WR Norman North | 2026 State OK is a two-way player that we really like in the state’s 2026 class. After getting on to the field last season as a freshman, James earned plenty of playing time and was arguably one of the top freshmen in Class 6A-1 football last season. James can line up at wide receiver and defensive back and we watched him in person quite a bit during the offseason. Whether it was at our camp back in January or in various 7v7 tournaments with Sooner 7, James was routinely one of the better 2026 prospects we got a chance to see. Now, James is currently listed as a defensive back because that’s mainly what he played last season. But this offseason, he really caught our eye because of his playmaking ability at wide receiver. He could very well be listed as an athlete in the next update in October after we see what he does on offense this fall.
Highlights
Rounding out the prospects that made big jumps in this latest ranking update is Idabel playmaker Mackylan Dixon Mackylan Dixon 5’10” | WR Idabel | 2026 State OK . We wrote about Dixon back in January during our last update and how when we watched Dixon in person last fall as a freshman, the playmaking ability was clearly there. Dixon is a chunk play waiting to happen every time he gets the ball in his hands. Whether he’s lined up at wide receiver, put in motion or whatever else Idabel asks of him, Dixon has the ability to turn a small simple play into a big one. He had a good offseason while playing on the 7v7 circuit with C4 and was surrounded by other southern Oklahoma playmakers. As we’ve mentioned a few times this offseason and really since the end of last year, Idabel is absolutely loaded. The majority of their players are back and we think that they have the chance to be special this fall.
