It’s camp season in Oklahoma and Prep Redzone Oklahoma is traveling all over the state to see some of the top teams and players that are going to making plenty of noise this fall. Be sure to check back on the website for various camp reports and follow us on Twitter @PrepRedzoneOK to see where we’re going next! In this post, we’re putting a spotlight on the Verdigris team camp. Who stood out, who emerged and much more! Check out our breakdown on standouts from Beggs, Kansas, Perkins-Tryon and Salina!
Perkins-Tryon 2024 standout Cutter Greene Cutter Greene 6’0″ | 190 lbs | WR Perkins-Tryon | 2024 State OK was one of the best athletes on the field at the camp in Verdigris. That continues a trend for Greene that we’ve seen over the last six months. From 7v7 tournaments to prospect camps and now a team camp setting. Any time Greene is on a football field, he is routinely one of the best athletes on the field. Colleges have certainly taken notice and are liking Greene more and more at the wide receiver position. Greene should continue to blow up this summer and into the fall. Based on his athletic ability alone, Greene is going to earn a spot somewhere. The only question is what level will that end up being. But the ceiling for this 2024 standout is incredibly high.
Salina has an extremely young team as they go into the 2023 football season. However, they do have at least one 2024 standout with Maverick Williamson Maverick Williamson 6’3″ | DL Salina | 2024 OK on the defensive side of the ball. While watching Williamson go to work on Thursday morning, he reminded us a lot of Washington 2023 defensive lineman Hayden Millner. From his physical make up to how he attacks opposing offensive linemen, Williamson is definitely a 2024 prospect that we are going to keep an eye on moving forward. Each year, there are small town prospects that fly under the radar across the state and we try to get an eye on as many as possible. Williamson is a good example of that. He was one of the better defensive ends at the camp on Thursday.
There’s no doubt that Beggs 2024 running back and Kansas commit Red Martel Red Martel 5’11” | 195 lbs | RB Beggs | 2024 State OK was arguably the best running back in attendance on Thursday. Martel has been on the radar since his freshman season and he’s only gotten better and better, every time he’s gotten on the field. This fall is going to be interesting to watch as Beggs looks to rebuild the offensive line, that’s going to be blocking for Martel throughout the season. But as Martel showed a few different times, even when the play breaks down and Martel doesn’t have a clear running lane, he can use his deep skillset to get into the open field and then it’s hard to bring him down. Martel made a big jump from his sophomore to junior season, it looks like he’ll make a big jump again.
Highlights
And any time you talk about the standouts from Beggs, it doesn’t take long to make sure 2025 running back and defensive back Ryan Grayson Ryan Grayson 6’0″ | 160 lbs | DB Beggs | 2025 State OK is in the conversation. Grayson was once again one of the more versatile athletes on the football field in Verdigris. On defense, Grayson has the ability to play a few different positions within the secondary. He also turns around and has the ability to be absolutely electric on the offensive side of the ball. Whether he’s at wide receiver or giving Martel a break and helping with the running game, Grayson is a playmaker and he showed a few times that when the ball is in his hands, fireworks frequently follow. We’re looking forward to seeing how Beggs uses him this fall.
The first of two standouts from Kansas was 2025 quarterback Seneca Steele Seneca Steele 6’4″ | 195 lbs | QB Kansas | 2025 State OK as the lefty was really impressive throughout the morning at Verdigris. Steele was already on our radar in the 2025 class. He’s part of an extremely deep quarterback group in Oklahoma’s 2025 class and the lefty really impressed us in person. He was slinging it all over the field and he turned around and played a little defensive back at safety as well. Steele immediately passed the eye test when we were watching and then watching how athletic he was to go with the arm talent was impressive to see in person. There were a few quarterbacks that impressed on Thursday but Steele was arguably the best in attendance in Verdigris.
Another Perkins-Tryon standout from Thursday was 2024 running back and defensive end Tre Stevenson Tre Stevenson 6’0″ | ATH Perkins-Tryon | 2024 State OK as he terrorized opposing offensive linemen. We’ve watched Stevenson quite a bit over the last two seasons and we’ve really bounced back and forth on what we like him as when it comes to being a college prospect. There have been times that we’ve watched him be unstoppable at running back, churning out at least 10 yards, every time he touches the ball. Then there are moments like Thursday when he is incredibly disruptive as a defensive end and it looks like there is more promise there. So the back and forth continues on what Stevenson can be but the one consistent theme is he’s incredibly productive.
Kansas offensive lineman Tristan Thompson Tristan Thompson 6’5″ | 260 lbs | OL Kansas | 2026 State OK is the only 2026 prospect to make it onto this breakdown. He just finished up his freshman year in high school and when we watched some of the different offensive lines go to work on Thursday, it was hard not to be impressed with Thompson just based on the size. He looks like he’s at least 6’5 and was lining up at left tackle throughout the morning in Verdigris. Talking with a few college coaches that were in attendance, when we found out that Thompson was just a 2026 prospect, that rose the level of excitement with his game. There’s still a lot of room for improvement but Thompson has the size and potential to be one of the better guys at his position.
