Continue ReadingI’ll take a second look at Jon Smith Jon Smith 6’1″ | 265 lbs | OL Pine-Richland | 2024 State PA ‘s tape after the show he put on this past Saturday. He deserves that at the very least, especially considering his way too low placement on our rankings. Have a hard time believing there are 70+ linemen better than Smith after watching him dominate interior reps at our camp. A real punch delivered to defensive linemen, enough power to startle and throttle many of the bigger IDL matched up with him. A true 6’0 guard/center, wonderful stature in his stance. Powerful, heavy limbs made him an early winner, wearing down weaker, younger prospects. Not too many losses in memory when thinking back to 1v1s. A ranking boost is in line and I’ll certainly pipe his names to coaches a bit more. All deserved. Champion lineman.
Not sure how this stud isn’t ranked on the Virginia site. Those rankings will receive a complete overhaul, I imagine the 6’8, 3-star linemen will be happy with his new placement. Ranking aside, what an impressive showing from the young man. More than impressive combine numbers, I see why Florida International pulled the trigger on the young man back in January. The tree can move. Sub-6-second 40, 7’8 broad to show off the flexibility and explosion in his trunks. Had the chance to see his knee drive and feet balance in mirror drills, all came back clean. A smooth overall performance was capped off with multiple dominant wins that showed off his violent temperament. Speed is always a deterrent against a prospect this size, yet he’s only just beginning to learn how to combat speed off the edge. The sophomore will figure it out.

The overall MVP of the group, the highest-ranking lineman at the camp. Fynn Mcdonald Fynn Mcdonald 6’8″ | 325 lbs | OL Allentown Central Catholic | 2024 State PA put on the most complete performance of any at the camp, that’s saying something considering Charles English and Carter Stallard Carter Stallard 6’8″ | 315 lbs | OL Christiansburg | 2025 State VA hardly lost reps. McDonald put forth the same effort, although a tad more assertive. An incredible reach, McDonald doesn’t have an excuse for letting defensive linemen in his chest. There was no steering or maneuvering this young man at tackle. You either tried your best to win with speed, if McDonald got his hands in your chest, the rep was over. Many speculate that we may have over-ranked the prospect, placing him among the elite linemen in his class. I feel much better about the notion now, after watching him work against serious competition. Here’s to hoping McDonald can build on the impressive offseason he’s having thus far.

Believe it or not, OL MVP was either going to be ACC’s McDonald or William Penn Charter’s Charles English. Much of the fanfare went to the two 6’8 giants in McDonald and Stallard, yet the exemplary performance on the night came out of Charles English. His rank should be a lot closer to McDonald’s in his own right, that change might come. Outstanding lower half that anchored into the turf. Fabulous hips along with some springy knees allowed English to easily absorb and distribute power. Again, speed off the edge might be the only trick, which is easy to do in a shorts and t-shirt. I jog my memory and rewatch tape and I can’t muster up any lost reps outside of some speed rushes. Very pleased the young man came to the camp. He’s got me in his corner from here on out.

John Pettit
John Pettit
Many linemen were up for the final spot, as the top four linemen spots were all but secured early on. Ceppetelli, Popeck, and some other linemen were all in line to win that final spot, yet I couldn’t deny unranked prospect John Pettit the honor. The kid who came out of nowhere, almost positive he was a walk-up, ended up winning the post-camp honor. Excited to take a dive into his game and possibly help propel his recruiting a bit. I hope his great performance in front of coaches did that in its own right. Either way, Pettit is squarely on my radar moving forward. I imagine I would have stumbled upon his name in time, considering I attend ABR games multiple times a year in the Fall. His performance stood out to me above the rest of the names.
