About Charles
Expert Analysis
Pat Weider | Prep Redzone Scout
Charles English played both right and left tackle for William Penn Charter. English shows good athleticism and flashes it with his pulling ability. He can pull and get up to the next level very well. He also uses his athleticism well against defensive players on the edge. English extends his arms well and uses that extension of the arms to keep edge players at bay. English looks like a solid prospect who could play at the Division 2 level of College Football.

Another Keystone State product, English has all the physical tools to succeed and be a bonafide prospect. He has a very similar build to Ferguson, but his best attribute was how well he moved. Taking spins both on the interior and on the edge, English’s ability to move quickly in close quarters and speed of his feet denied opponents from sustaining superior leverage.

. has had a spectacular offseason, yet no program has pulled the trigger yet. Not a time to panic, far from that. I’ll speak in terms of ranking, as I have written numerous pieces on the young man in the past month or two. Over 20 linemen have received FBS offers to this point, so It’s tough to rank English, a kid who I think is worthy, above others who’ve had their recruitment solidified. A similar rank is expected, yet had he not wowed me and others in the field this offseason, he more than likely would have dropped. Now, English will likely stay hovering around the top 150-175. Still a high D1 grade. We’ll see what happens moving forward.

Feel like I’ve been writing about this young man left and right. I think he’s a lock for local FCS programs, especially considering how special of an off-season he’s had. He’s flashing winning reps at every camp he attends. He’s checking off boxes in terms of height/weight thresholds and grades. I’m giving English Jr. an FCS floor grade with a real chance of garnering FBS interest. Excited to see him again at Penn Charter workouts before training camp begins.

Believe it or not, OL MVP was either going to be ACC’s McDonald or William Penn Charter’s Charles English. Much of the fanfare went to the two 6’8 giants in McDonald and Stallard, yet the exemplary performance on the night came out of Charles English. His rank should be a lot closer to McDonald’s in his own right, that change might come. Outstanding lower half that anchored into the turf. Fabulous hips along with some springy knees allowed English to easily absorb and distribute power. Again, speed off the edge might be the only trick, which is easy to do in a shorts and t-shirt. I jog my memory and rewatch tape and I can’t muster up any lost reps outside of some speed rushes. Very pleased the young man came to the camp. He’s got me in his corner from here on out.

No full junior tape out, yet I turned on many single-game tapes against elite Inter-Ac competition and came away very pleased with Charles English’s abilities, especially in pass-pro sets. Springy base/hips allow English Jr. to absorb initial contact and anchor into the turf as a counter. English has a ton of reps damn near everywhere on the field. It’s tough to get an idea of where he projects because his tape isn’t pieced together. English’s evaluation won’t be complete until then. That being said, he’s got good enough size and tape against top talent to warrant landing inside the top 130.
