Every Friday during February through April, we’re going to throw on the tape and break down athletes across Oklahoma. In February, we put out a tweet asking prospects in the 2024-2026 classes to send us their film for our Film Review feature. Over 150 responses later and we’re off to the races. We’ve reviewed well over 100 prospects all over Oklahoma so far and we’re not close to slowing down. This week, we have two parts for you to check out. This is part two. If you missed part one, check that out RIGHT HERE.
If you’re not featured this week but have sent us your film, don’t worry! You’re on the list and will be covered in the future. Now, all of these breakdowns are based on the film we have access to. And this isn’t just a puff piece. While the majority of the breakdowns will be positive, it will also include areas to improve, question marks and more for the prospect to work on as we head into the spring and summer.
First Friday film review that we are going to take a look at is McConnell out of Choctaw. McConnell is a 2025 outside linebacker who moves well out in space. When he is in coverage, he shows good hip turns and can run with the slot receiver. When McConnell lines up out on the edge of the line of scrimmage, he comes off hard and plays flat. His reads are quick, and he gets downhill in a hurry. McConnell likes to play physical and is a good edge rusher when his number is called to go. Anytime he has a lineman come up to block him McConnell does well with shedding the block and comes back to balance to make the play. The Yellowjackets defense enables McConnell to play within his game while making quick reads and playing in his opponents’ backfield. McConnell will be someone to keep an eye out for as he stands in at 6’1″ and 180 pounds. He has a good frame and will continue to develop as he adds more weight.

Dayton Scott

Next film that we put on is of a 2026 running back out of Apache High School. I liked what I watched especially since he is only a high school freshman back. What impressed me the most about Scott is his vision and balance running the ball. He doesn’t hesitate to hit the hole and gets to the second level in a hurry. Scott showed plenty of times his balance while putting his arm down and gaining extra yards. He is not afraid to lower his shoulder and keeps his legs moving. Scott puts his foot in the ground and can change direction and shows good footwork. As Scott keeps developing throughout the years, he will be fun to keep an eye out for these upcoming years.
When I think of Ada, I always think about the inside linebackers that they turn out year after year. Our first look at a 2024 Friday film review happens to be with Marr out of Ada. Marr is a good-looking inside linebacker that can run sideline to sideline with a motor. He never took a play off in film I evaluated as he constantly had good eyes and never slowed down from the backside. His reads are what impresses me overall as he gets downhill and attacks the ball carrier. Marr gets off the blocks and doesn’t hesitate in making the play. Marr plays inside out and does a good job of reading the inside hip to make the play. At 6’1″ and 195 pounds Marr should be able to find a place to play at the next level at backer.

The first quarterback we get to take a look at in this week’s film review is Ssettimba out of Union. He is a freshman that shows good pocket presence and can throw a nice deep ball. When the pocket collapses, he is quick to take off while still keeping his eyes downfield. In doing so, he can set his feet quickly to throw the deep ball. Ssettimba shows to be a dual quarterback as Union uses his legs in the run game. He reads the defensive end well and can pull the ball to take off quickly. I would like to see him go through his progressions at quarterback for a better evaluation of his freshman year in the passing game. It will be fun to watch what Union does with Ssettimba these next few years.

The last film session that we are going to take a look at is Hughes that plays on the offensive line at Garber who plays 8-man football. Hughes is out of the class of 2025 and he plays tackle for Garber. Standing in at 6’4″ and weighing in at 285, Hughes can move some people around. He has a good first step off the ball and does a good job placing his hands inside the steering wheel. Hughes stays on path and gets up to the second level quickly for a big man. I like how well he moves when he pulls down the line of scrimmage. Hughes doesn’t wait for work to come to him, he finds it while being physical. I would like to see Hughes play with better pad leverage when he comes off the line of scrimmage attacking his defenders.
