Every Friday during February through April, we’re going to throw on the tape and break down athletes across Oklahoma. In February, we put out a tweet asking prospects in the 2024-2026 classes to send us their film for our Film Review feature. Over 150 responses later and we’re off to the races. We’ve reviewed well over 100 prospects all over Oklahoma so far and we’re not close to slowing down. This week, we have two parts for you to check out. This is Part One, to check out more athletes on Part Two, stay tuned to Prep Redzone Oklahoma later today as our coach Tony Daniels breaks down five more prospects! Keep it locked in to Prep Redzone Oklahoma every Friday for more breakdowns on athletes across Oklahoma.
If you’re not featured this week but have sent us your film, don’t worry! You’re on the list and will be covered in the future. Now, all of these breakdowns are based on the film we have access to. And this isn’t just a puff piece. While the majority of the breakdowns will be positive, it will also include areas to improve, question marks and more for the prospect to work on as we head into the spring and summer.
We might have mentioned this a few times this offseason already but if you’re looking for a potential breakout star this fall, look no further than Union 2025 athlete Boston Carrasco Boston Carrasco 5’10” | 170 lbs | ATH Union | 2025 State OK as he looks to become one of Union’s top playmakers on offense this fall. Carrasco spent the majority of his sophomore season at Jenks before moving to Union towards the end of the 2022 regular season. So his sophomore film is somewhat limited to JV action but he did get some run on the varsity level. We’ve seen quite a bit of Carrasco during the last two offseasons while he played 7v7, and based on his film from last year, there is a potential for him being that breakout offensive weapon. Carrasco is incredibly shifty in the open field and does a really good job of avoiding defenders and creating space between him and his opponent. He’s very versatile and can see playing time at running back, wide receiver and on special teams as a returner. We’re looking forward to seeing what he can do this fall because there’s a lot of potential for him to be a weapon on offense.

We don’t shy away from throwing on some 8-man football film and breaking down some top prospects. Garber has a few and one of them is 2025 standout Mark Bishop Mark Bishop 6’0″ | 165 lbs | ATH Garber | 2025 State OK and he definitely has earned that “standout” moniker. He’s also a standout in basketball and it’s easy to see why. Bishop is just a really talented athlete that does a lot of things well. The first thing that stands out with Bishop’s film is the touchdowns. It’s score after score and they come from a variety of ways and positions. He lined up at running back and wide receiver on offense and he was just as likely to score by taking a hand off or a quick screen the distance as he was beating his man in a 1 on 1 situation on a deep ball. Another thing that really impressed me was Bishop’s ability to break tackles and get out of traffic upright. He has a very strong upper body and is very difficult to bring down in a 1 on 1 situation. But there’s some serious speed there as he is very dangerous in the open field, hence all of the touchdowns. We definitely want to see Bishop in person for further evaluation as an overall athlete.

Verdigris 2024 offensive lineman Ryan Wells Ryan Wells 5’11” | 240 lbs | OL Verdigris | 2024 State OK is the only prospect on this week’s feature from the line of scrimmage. The Verdigris product is going to be an interesting prospect to watch this fall as the Cardinals lost a ton of experience and Wells will be one of the few returning starters. When you throw on his tape, the first thought we had is that the Cardinals have something to build with in Wells anchoring the offensive line. His film was primarily him lined up at right tackle. And he is an absolute mauler in the blocking game. His run blocking was outstanding and that’s where the majority of his clips were. He also does a good job of getting out of his stance and pulling when he’s asked to do that. We do want to see more clips of Wells pass blocking and seeing his feet in action against defensive ends coming off the edge. We got a chance to see Wells in person back in January at our camp and he impressed. There’s also some potential with Wells’ size to move around along the line of scrimmage. We are also curious how he would look on defense.

As Stillwater made their run to a state championship, 2024 wide receiver Talon Kendrick Talon Kendrick 6’2″ | ATH Stillwater | 2024 State OK enjoyed a breakout season and ended up being a swiss army knife for the Pioneer offense and was used in a variety of ways. As a wide receiver, Kendrick’s top quality was his physical nature as a player. He would flatten defensive backs when the Pioneers were running the football and his film featured some of the best run-blocking from a wide receiver. And then when Kendrick has the ball in his hands, he has a strong upper body and is very difficult to deal with in 1 on 1 situations. And that gave Kendrick the ability to come down with tough catches in traffic. Kendrick was also good with the ball in his hands in situations after the catch. It’s going to be very interesting to see how the Pioneers use Kendrick this fall as they have to replace some serious skill players within their offense. That could open the door for Kendrick to have a significant jump in production this season. Only time will tell. But if this offseason is any indication, Kendrick is ready to make that jump.

We might have mentioned this back in January when Locust Grove quarterback Titan Hix Titan Hix 6’3″ | 210 lbs | QB Locust Grove | 2026 State OK debuted as the top 2026 QB prospect and a top five overall prospect. His freshman film is off the charts and it has to be in the conversation for our favorite film of any quarterback, regardless of class, that we’ve watched this offseason. While enjoying a breakout season at Hennessey last fall, Hix was one of the better dual-threat quarterbacks in the state. The production was off the charts in the passing and running game. And some of the throws that he made are simply throws that you don’t see many freshmen making. In fact, you don’t see very many quarterbacks making in general at the high school level. Simply put, Hix’s film didn’t look like a typical freshman and there’s reason to be very excited as he moved to Locust Grove as his dad is the new head coach of the Pirates. He has a canon of an arm and does a good job of staying calm in the pocket and made some special throws while under pressure. Hix is signed up for our camp on April 30th (coupon code: KnightPT2023 saves you $10) so we look forward to seeing how he stacks up against other top quarterbacks in the state.
