The 2022 football season has come and gone. Once again, the football season has just flown by. We’re nearly a month removed from the final football games of the 2022 season, and we’ve been recapping the year in football ever since. In today’s post, we’re celebrating a fantastic career with our third annual career achievement award. For this award, we’re celebrating a player who has been one of the best players in the state for an extended period of time.
And this year’s winner is Cushing senior wide receiver and defensive back Camden Crooks Camden Crooks 6'0" | 190 lbs | WR Cushing | 2023 State OK . The Cushing standout has been just that, a standout, since his freshman season and he’s been one of the most productive players in the state over the last four years. We dive into Crooks’ career and what has made him so special and more importantly, what has made him so tough to contain on the football field. Keep it locked into Prep Redzone Oklahoma every single day for more postseason content!
rnCrooks finished off his career with nearly 5,000 receiving yards and 63 receiving touchdowns. He also had well over 200 tackles and nearly 20 interceptions on the defensive side of the ball. And throughout his senior season, Crooks became an even more dangerous player in the special teams department with seven punt return touchdowns and another kick return touchdown during the 2022 season alone. Crooks would cap off his senior season by making a little history as well a few weeks ago.
rnPrep Redzone Oklahoma just wrapped up our third football season after launching in the summer of 2020. Every season, Crooks has been a finalist for our Player Of The Year award. He first received the nod following his sophomore season and earned it again as a junior and was a no brainer selection this year as a senior. It’s not a bold prediction to suggest that we probably won’t see too many players become three-time finalists for the award. What Crooks has done over the last four years is truly special.
rnAnd after his sophomore season, it was apparent that Crooks was going to be one of the best playmakers in Class 4A. And despite being on the radar among all 4A coaches moving forward, it didn’t matter. In fact, Crooks continued to get better every single season. As a junior, Crooks would finish with over 1,600 yards and 20 touchdowns on the year. He would become more efficient as a senior as he had 26 less receptions but he finished with over 1,500 yards and 23 touchdowns on the year. And we mentioned the impact that he had in 2022 in the return game.
rnCrooks also benefitted from playing with one of the top quarterbacks in Oklahoma’s 2023 class with Blaze Berlowitiz. The Cushing QB signed with New Mexico State a few weeks ago and has been one of the top passers during the last three seasons. It’s also not a bold statement to suggest that the Berlowitz-Crooks connection might rank up near the top in terms of quarterback-wide receiver duos in state history. While the 2022 season didn’t end the way Crooks and the Tigers would have liked, there’s no doubt that he’s been one of the best players in Oklahoma over the last few seasons and he’s this year’s winner of the Prep Redzone Oklahoma Career Achievement Award.
