The latest 2025 rankings on Prep Redzone Oklahoma were released on Monday with the Top 100 for the state’s 2025 class. Throughout the week, we’re breaking down prospects throughout the rankings. From stock risers and newcomers to breakdowns by positions, it will be a busy week! So keep it locked in to Prep Redzone Oklahoma throughout the week for more on the 2025 class. In this post, we’re putting a spotlight on the best of the best when it comes to pass catchers in the 2025 class. Whether it’s at tight end or wide receiver, these five prospects are not only the best pass catchers in the class, but they are some of the top overall prospects. In fact, this group not only includes the top five pass catchers, but the top two overall prospects in the 2025 group. We break each one of them down here.
The first of two elite basketball and football prospects on this breakdown is Weatherford’s CJ Nickson CJ Nickson 6’6″ | ATH Weatherford | 2025 State OK . As we write this on a Wednesday, it’s been a very busy 24 hours for Nickson. On Tuesday night, Nickson was on the court, scoring 44 points on 19-22 shooting and outscoring Altus by himself 44-42. Wednesday morning, Nickson earned his first Power Five offer for football from Texas Tech and it appears that it’s going to be a crazy spring and summer for Nickson as he juggles the two sports and becoming a legitimate prospect in both. In football, Nickson is a game changer on the offensive side of the ball. Whether he lines up at wide receiver or you move him closer to the line of scrimmage as a tight end, Nickson is routinely one of the best athletes on the football field. He’s also produced at a very high level in football and has established himself as one of the elite dual-sport stars in Oklahoma.
Highlights
Checotah wide receiver Elijah Thomas Elijah Thomas 6’0″ | WR Checotah | 2025 State OK enjoyed a breakout season as a freshman and kept that momentum going into his sophomore season. Despite the Wildcats struggling on the scoreboard, Thomas still had a solid year. It was a tale of two seasons as the first half of the year, Thomas was limited in his impact on the field. But in the second half of the season, Thomas could not be contained. The majority of his production came in their final four games of the season, including a monster game in the season finale, in which he had nine catches for nearly 250 yards and three touchdowns. Thomas is another wide receiver prospect in this class that has already earned offers from Power Five programs and this could be a very busy spring and summer for the small town standout. Thomas continues to climb the ranks and it doesn’t seem like he’s stopping anytime soon.
The story of Millwood sophomore Jaden Nickens Jaden Nickens 6’4″ | WR Douglass | 2025 State OK continues to get more and more interesting. At this time last year, Nickens was the top-rated basketball prospect in the state’s 2025 class and was in the middle of helping Millwood to an eventual state championship. In the spring, Nickens joined the Millwood football team and after just a few days in pads during May, Nickens earned multiple D1 offers. Fast forward to where we are now and Nickens is still the top hoops prospect but he’s also emerged as the new #1 overall prospect in the state for football and has already earned at least one invite to an All American game when his high school career is over. There is absolutely no doubt that Nickens is one of the best overall athletes in the state and he helped lead Millwood all the way to the state title game in football. Nickens is in the middle of basketball right now as the Falcons try to repeat.
Edging out Nickens and Millwood in that 2A championship game last month was Nate Roberts Nate Roberts 6’4″ | 235 lbs | TE Washington | 2025 State OK and Washington as the Warriors finally captured the gold ball after runner up finishes in 2020 and 2021. Roberts, like Nickens, has had made a massive jump in the last 12 months. Roberts emerged as a prospect that you needed to know about in the spring of last year and that got the ball rolling on him being a top ten overall prospect in the class. At the tight end position, Roberts was Washington’s leading receiver during their run to the state championship in 2022 and he also made what would end up being the game-winning touchdown in that state title game. Like the other prospects on this breakdown, Roberts has already earned Power Five offers and the interest continues to gain traction as more coaches see his film and also see the Washington big man in person. He’ll be battling for that top overall spot for the next two years.
Carl Albert sophomore Trey Washington Trey Washington 6’3″ | WR Carl Albert | 2025 State OK is still a prospect that you need to know about moving forward. His production on the field might have taken a step back after a breakout freshman year but that’s what happens when you have a running back run for nearly 2,600 yards. You’re not throwing the ball that much. Washington is still a very intriguing prospect because he definitely passes the eye test and when the Titans did throw it, he was one of their leading receivers in every category. We anticipate he’ll get back to more of what we saw from him as a freshman when the Titans come out this fall. And this has nothing to do with Washington as a pass catcher, but we watched quite a bit of football in 2022 and the Carl Albert standout was arguably the best punter we saw in person. Now, his future is as a wide receiver, but he can absolutely boom a ball. And the Titans didn’t punt very often.
