We’ve written quite a bit about the young talent that Muskogee has on both sides of the ball and one of their best players is junior tight end and defensive end Anthony Watson Anthony Watson 6’0″ | 220 lbs | ATH Muskogee | 2024 State OK . The junior has established himself this season as one of the best two-way players in the state. He’s a security blanket for the Muskogee passing game as a tight end and then he turns around and is one of the best defensive ends in 6A-2 this season. The numbers that Watson has put up are outstanding on both sides of the ball and it’s tough to pick one side where he’s more valuable. Watson and the Roughers are not only one of the top contenders this season, they’ll be the favorite next year.
Highlights
We have Tahlequah sophomore Beckett Robinson Beckett Robinson 6’2″ | 170 lbs | DB Tahlequah | 2025 State OK listed as a defensive back in our prospect rankings but he is much more than just a safety for the Tigers. This season, in Tahlequah’s first season up in 6A-2, the Tigers are headed to the playoffs and Robinson is a big reason behind that. In addition to being one of their best defensive players, Robinson is also the leading wide receiver on the offensive side of the ball. In fact, Tahlequah has a few young players on offense that makes them a team to watch out for moving forward. The Tigers hit the road to face Ponca City in the first round and Robinson will attempt to have a complete impact on the game on both sides of the ball.
The first of several defense-only players to keep an eye on is Deer Creek senior cornerback Dale Miller Dale Miller 5’10” | 165 lbs | DB Deer Creek | 2023 State OK , Committed to north Carolina, Miller is one of the best prospects in the state and we’re looking forward to seeing what he can do on the biggest stage this month. After becoming one of the better regional defensive backs in the southeastern part of the country at Alabama powerhouse Hoover, Miller and his family moved to Oklahoma and he landed at Deer Creek, where he became a big part of a Deer Creek secondary that was already pretty talented before he moved into the district. The Antlers are hungry to make it back to the state title game and will lean on Miller to do it.
The first of a pair of Stillwater Pioneers on this breakdown is senior quarterback Gage Gundy Gage Gundy 6’3″ | 200 lbs | QB Stillwater | 2023 State OK . The senior gunslinger has the Pioneers as the only undefeated team coming into the playoffs and his play this season has reached new heights. He showed that in their week ten win over previously unbeaten Muskogee when he absolutely starred as a passer and a runner. Gundy is a very underrated athlete and when it comes to his arm, he has one of the strongest arms in the state. His growth as a pure quarterback over the last 18 months has been fun to watch and the Pioneers have one of the best offenses in the state because of it. And leading that high-scoring attack will be Gundy.
Throughout the offseason, we heard about how Deer Creek had a young quarterback that could take the Antlers to new heights. We wanted to wait and see on that because he was replacing a really good quarterback in Brett Pense, who helped take the Antlers to the state title game a year ago. But we have to tip our cap to 2025 quarterback Grady Adamson Grady Adamson 6’1″ | 215 lbs | QB Deer Creek | 2025 State OK . The kid has been lights out throughout the season. The only blemish on the schedule was a road loss to Choctaw but even in that loss, you could see flashes of why he’s considered one of the best quarterbacks in this class. The arm talent is fantastic but Adamson is also a very strong athlete overall and can do a lot of things very well.
Highlights
Right after Adamson at Deer Creek is another 2025 quarterback and that’s Muskogee lefty Jamarian Ficklin Jamarian Ficklin 6’1″ | 180 lbs | QB Muskogee | 2025 State OK . We’ve written quite a bit about the Muskogee turnaround this season and Ficklin has been at the helm of it. In some of their biggest games of the season, Ficklin has not only been at his best, but he’s made the game look easy. And that’s terrifying to think about when you consider that he’s just a sophomore. If he’s this comfortable and performing well against the best competition as a sophomore, what will he be like when he’s a senior? Ficklin has become one of the top quarterbacks in the state’s 2026 class and he and the Roughers want to show that they can win it all this year.
Sand Springs has had an up and down season but there is reason to be very excited about not only the playoffs but the future of Sandite football. One of those reasons is the emergence of junior running back Kenneth Page Kenneth Page 6’0″ | 200 lbs | RB Sand Springs | 2024 State OK this season. He has been outstanding for the Sandites and while Sand Springs is breaking in a freshman at the quarterback position, Page has been able to be a steady force at the running back spot. He’s been an absolute touchdown machine and behind a young but talented offensive line, the sky is the limit moving forward. As the Sandites open the playoffs against Putnam City, Page will be a big part of the Sand Springs offensive game plan this week and moving forward.
Highlights
Arguably the top overall college prospect in the 6A-2 playoffs this month is Booker T Washington 2023 wide receiver and defensive back Micah Tease Micah Tease 6’1″ | WR Booker T Washington | 2023 State OK . The Hornet playmaker has been an absolute star since his sophomore season and he’s back to help lead the Hornets make a run this month. We have Booker T Washington listed as the dark horse to keep an eye on in the 6A-2 playoffs but their road to Edmond is incredibly tough. But with Tease as the gamechanging wide receiver, the Hornet offense has the chance to be pretty special this month. Whether it’s on offense or defense, the Hornet senior star has the potential to just go off over the next several weeks.
The other part of that Stillwater backfield is senior running back Noah Roberts Noah Roberts 5’7″ | 155 lbs | RB Stillwater | 2023 State OK . The Stillwater senior has been an absolute touchdown machine this season for the Pioneers. After splitting carries last season with Holden Thompson Holden Thompson 5’10” | 180 lbs | RB Stillwater | 2024 State OK , Roberts turned into the main running back this year with Thompson out with a knee injury. Roberts has answered the call and shown that he can be a workhorse back if you need him to be and has done it at an incredibly high level this season. We mentioned how the Pioneers have one of the best offenses in 6A-2 and Roberts is a big reason behind that. He’s enjoying a season where you have to consider him one of, if not the best running back in 6A-2 this year.
Highlights
There are a few 2025 prospects on this list and one offensive name that we really like moving forward is Bartlesville standout PJ Wallace PJ Wallace 6’1″ | RB Muskogee | 2025 State OK . This season, Wallace has emerged as the go-to running back for the Bartlesville offense and he’s put up some monster numbers as a sophomore. The Bruins will hit the road and face off with Lawton in the first round in arguably the best game of the first round in 6A-2. Wallace has the chance to have the kind of impact that makes you a bigger name moving forward as the Bruins try to upset the Wolverines. Wallace is a good looking prospect and we’re looking forward to seeing more of him moving forward in the next two years.
Highlights
Choctaw 2023 standout RJ Jackson RJ Jackson 6’4″ | DL Choctaw | 2023 State OK has been one of the best athletes in the class when it comes to prospects for a while now. But we have been waiting to see him have the type of impact that has become an expectation of him year after year. With Jackson moving over to defense and playing more at the defensive end position, we’ve seen that emergence. Jackson has been an absolute nightmare for opposing offensive linemen, especially considering 2024 standout Will Smith Will Smith 6’4″ | 240 lbs | DL Choctaw | 2024 State OK is on the other side of that defensive front. Jackson’s combination of size, athleticism and burst off the ball makes him so tough to stop from getting into the backfield.
Choctaw senior quarterback Steele Wasel Steele Wasel 6’4″ | 210 lbs | QB Choctaw | 2023 State OK has been the top 2023 quarterback in the state since his sophomore season. He’s been one of the top overall quarterbacks in the state since leading the Yellowjackets to the state title game as a sophomore. As he enters his final month as QB1 for the Yellowjackets, he’s hungrier than ever to help lead Choctaw not only back to UCO but this time, lifting the gold ball. Wasel has been incredibly accurate and efficient with the football this season. He has a complete understanding of what the Yellowjackets are trying to do on offense and is playing some of his best football right now. He’s determined to not let the Yellowjackets fall short.
One of the top prospects on this breakdown and defensive-only players is Putnam City defensive end Taje McCoy Taje McCoy 6’3″ | 245 lbs | DL Putnam City | 2023 State OK . When it comes to the 2023 prospects in this state, McCoy is very underrated as a defensive end and can absolutely get after the quarterback. McCoy and the Pirates are back into the playoffs after dropping back down to Class 6A-2. Over the last decade, the most success the Pirates have had is when they are in 6A-2. They travel to Sand Springs to face the Sandites in the first round, who have a good running game but a young quarterback. If McCoy can put the pressure on the Sandite freshman, the Pirates could pull off the upset and make it to the next round.
Another player that is an absolute star on both sides of the ball is Lawton senior Tyron Amacker Tyron Amacker 6’0″ | 170 lbs | ATH Lawton | 2023 State OK . He’s been that guy for the Wolverines for the last several seasons and he’s a big reason why they are 7-3 and back into the playoffs. Whether it’s as a wide receiver, running back or defensive back, Amacker has had a massive impact on Lawton’s season both sides of the ball. The senior duo of Amacker and quarterback Devarius Hardy Devarius Hardy 6’3″ | 180 lbs | QB Lawton | 2023 State OK has been a tough duo to stop for Lawton’s opponents this season. The Wolverines will host Bartlesville in the first round and if they get the win, they’ll face top-ranked Stillwater in the quarterfinals. Look for Amacker to be a gamechanger this month.
