Now that we are headed into playoff time, I wanted to take a look back at some of the top players from the regular season in each class. With that in mind, I have decided to put together my All-State teams for each individual class. After covering 1A, I will now turn my attention to the top players in 2A. With that being said, here is my 2A Regular Season All-State Team on the offensive side of the ball.
If you follow high school football in the state of Kentucky, you should know the name Cutter Boley Cutter Boley 6’5″ | 200 lbs | QB Lexington Christian Academy | 2024 State KY by now. Boley is one of the best quarterbacks in the entire country that I have seen in his class and he has had a very impressive sophomore season. Cutter finished the regular season as the state’s leading passer, completing 190/293 passes for 3,014 yards, 27 touchdowns, and eleven interceptions in nine games. He has a cannon for an arm with the ability to lead his receivers down the field and hit them in stride in the deep passing game. I also like his feel for the pocket as he has shown the awareness to move in the pocket to avoid pressure and has shown that he can escape the pocket and make throws on the run. Boley has also shown the ability to pick up yards on the ground when nothing is there in the passing game. Cutter has a long list of Power 5 offers and that list will only grow over the next couple years as he is a truly special talent.
Another sophomore that stood out to me this season is Demauriah Brown Demauriah Brown 5’11” | 170 lbs | ATH Boyle County | 2025 State KY from Danville. Brown put a lot of people on notice as Danville’s star running back this season, finishing second in 2A in rushing with 152 carries for 1,603 yards and 23 touchdowns. He has great vision out of the backfield and bursts through the running lane as soon as it opens. Once he gets through the second level, he has the speed to run right by defenders on the way to the end zone before they even get the chance to tackle him. He also has shown the ability to make defenders miss in the open field. Brown also scored one touchdown on a kickoff return this year and recorded 28 tackles with five tackles for loss but he shined the brightest out of the backfield. Demauriah doesn’t currently hold any offers but he will be a player to watch over the next two seasons as he has the potential to turn into a high-caliber recruit by his senior season.
The only player that out rushed Brown on the stat sheet was senior running back Ethan Jarvis Ethan Jarvis 6’0″ | 180 lbs | RB Prestonsburg | 2023 State KY from Prestonsburg. Jarvis finished the year first in 2A and sixth in the entire state in rushing with 204 carries for 1,628 yards and 26 touchdowns. He is a downhill runner that keeps his feet running through contact and often takes multiple players to bring down. Jarvis keeps very good contact balance, often seeming to bounce off defenders when running up the middle. While he is known for his strength, he has also shown the speed to run away from the defense once he hits the second level to break off on long runs. Ethan doesn’t have any reported offers but should be on the radar of college coaches as he has the talent to play somewhere at the next level.
Mitchell Berger Mitchell Berger 5’11” | 190 lbs | ATH Beechwood | 2023 State KY was a do-it-all player for Beechwood this season but he seemed to succeed the most at running back. Berger finished his senior season third in 2A in rushing with 121 carries for 1,119 yards and 21 touchdowns in only eight games. Mitchell is a great downhill runner with the ability to run right through defenders in the open field. He combines that strength with the speed to break away for long touchdown runs. Berger also showed reliability in the passing game, catching 19 passes for 251 yards and two touchdowns this season. He also made 19 PAT attempts and one field goal as a kicker, putting him at first in 2A in scoring with 162 total points. Berger also started on defense and played a key role as a linebacker. Unfortunately, Berger will miss the playoffs due to an injury but he has an outstanding senior year and is committed to play baseball at Eastern Kentucky.
Next up on this All-State team is Boley’s go-to target this season, junior wide receiver Parker Chaney Parker Chaney 6’0″ | 180 lbs | ATH Lexington Christian Academy | 2024 State KY . Chaney is having an outstanding junior season, finishing the regular season with a 2A leading 67 catches and is second in receiving yards with 993 along with seven touchdowns. He has impressive route running ability with smooth breaks in his routes which he uses to create separation in the short and intermediate passing game. Chaney also has shown the speed to pose as a threat in the deep passing game. After the catch, Chaney can make defenders miss in the open field and has the strength to break tackles. He was also a key piece of the LCA defense at defensive back but stood out the most on the offensive side of the ball this year. While Parker doesn’t currently hold any offers, I expect some to come soon as he is a player that can produce on either side of the ball and has Division I caliber potential.
Highlights
Another junior receiver that had a very impressive regular season is Brady Bentley Brady Bentley 5’7″ | 165 lbs | WR Shelby Valley | 2024 State KY from Shelby Valley. Bentley caught 38 passes for a 2A leading 1,047 yards along with ten touchdowns. Brady lines up mainly in the slot but has shown the ability to produce on the outside as well. He uses his speed to take the top off the defense down the seam in the deep passing game. Brady also is a great route runner with the ability to make quick breaks in his routes to create separation. After the catch, Bentley uses his speed to get up the field and break away from the defense. Bentley doesn’t currently hold any offers but college coaches should be put on notice going into his senior season as he has been very productive over the past two seasons.
The third receiver on this All-State team is senior Wyatt Blythe Wyatt Blythe 6’1″ | 155 lbs | ATH Metcalfe County | 2023 State KY from Metcalfe County. Blythe is having an outstanding final season, finishing the regular season with 49 receptions for 809 yards and a 2A leading 14 touchdowns. He has very reliable hands and has shown the athleticism to go up and catch highly thrown passes on multiple occasions. Blythe is electric after the catch as he has shown the ability to use his elusiveness and speed to turn short passes and screens into long touchdowns. He also has played a huge role on defense, leading 2A with eight interceptions with two returned for a touchdown but I really liked what he showed on offense. Wyatt doesn’t currently hold any offers but college coaches should be giving him more attention as he has the talent to play somewhere at the next level.
Will Rich Will Rich 6’3″ | 215 lbs | TE Lexington Christian Academy | 2024 State KY is the next LCA Eagle on my 2A All-State team. He has proven to be a complete tight end for the Eagles the past couple seasons. In the passing game, Rich has been a reliable target, catching eight passes for 83 yards and two touchdowns. He has shown the ability to run routes like a receiver and create separation from his defender. Will has also shown reliable hands and isn’t afraid to make catches in the middle of the field. He also is a very good blocker. Rich has shown the ability to create movement off the line of scrimmage in the run game and pick up blocks in the open field when he goes up to the second level. Will doesn’t currently hold any offers but I expect him to pick some up going into his senior year as he has the talent to play in college and has been receiving a strong amount of interest from college programs.
Staying with the trend of LCA Eagles on this team, Garrison McKinney Garrison McKinney 6’2″ | 280 lbs | OL Lexington Christian Academy | 2024 State KY has continued to be the leader for them on the offensive line. He has proven himself to be the top offensive lineman in 2A and one of the best in the entire state. Garrison lined up at left tackle this season and was very impressive when blocking in open space. He showed the ability to pull from the tackle spot as a lead blocker and get out to the flat to block on screen passes and simply destroyed anything in his path. McKinney is a very physical blocker that puts defenders on the ground very quickly. As a pass blocker, he shows great footwork and does a good job of protecting his inside gap. Garrison currently holds an offer from Eastern Kentucky but I expect more to come going into his senior year as he is a true Division I caliber offensive lineman.
Joining McKinney on the impressive LCA offensive line unit is senior Max Ishmael Max Ishmael 6’4″ | 310 lbs | OL Lexington Christian Academy | 2023 State KY . Ishmael is a big, strong offensive guard that moves very well for his size. He has shown the ability to pull and get out around the edge as a lead blocker and does a great job of driving the first defender he sees out of the picture. Ishmael is a mauler that does a great job of running his feet through first contact and finishing his blocks. He also does a great job of getting up to the second level when asked to and picking up blocks in open space. Ishmael also showed some promise at defensive tackle but I still believe he looked his best on offense. Max currently holds offers from Centre, Morehead State, and Pikeville, along with a preferred walk-on offer from Eastern Kentucky, and I could see him being a very good offensive guard at any of those schools.
Highlights
Wyatt Buffington Wyatt Buffington 6’3″ | 300 lbs | OL Murray | 2024 State KY is an offensive lineman that has been on my radar for a while and continued to impress me this season. Buffington stood out as the leader of Murray’s offense as a junior, performing very well from the center position. He does a great job of stepping to his man quickly as he snaps the ball. Once he steps to his man, he gets good inside position with his hands and runs his feet through contact to create movement off the line of scrimmage. Wyatt is a very physical blocker that finishes his blocks through the whistle, resulting in pancake blocks on numerous occasions. While Wyatt doesn’t currently hold any offers, I expect interest to pick up for him going into his senior year as he has already been taking some visits and definitely has the skill set to play at the next level.
Highlights
Another junior center that has impressed this season is Evan Miller Evan Miller 6’3″ | 300 lbs | OL Breathitt County | 2024 State KY from Breathitt County. Miller does a great job of getting the snap back to the quarterback quickly and exploding out of his stance in the run game. He keeps his feet churning through contact to create movement off the line of scrimmage, often driving his man several yards down the field. Miller is a very physical blocker that makes sure to finish his blocks through the whistle. I also like his ability as a down blocker, showing the ability to wall off his defender and drive them out of the picture to create a running lane for the ball carrier. Evan doesn’t currently hold any offers but should see some come sooner than later as he has the talent to play in college and has been already receiving a strong amount of interest.
Highlights
Wrapping up my 2A All-State Team on offense is senior Lucas Childers Lucas Childers 6’4″ | 260 lbs | OL Somerset | 2023 KY from Somerset. Childers is a big, athletic offensive tackle that plays on the left side and does a great job of protecting his quarterback’s blindside. In pass protection, Childers shows great footwork with the ability to drop back and mirror pass rushers on the outside. He also shows the willingness to continue to work to make sure his man doesn’t get to the quarterback. In the run game, he has shown the ability to create movement off the line of scrimmage and also has been reliable at picking up blocks in open space when he gets up to the second level. Lucas doesn’t currently hold any offers but I wouldn’t be surprised to see some come soon as he is a very talented offensive lineman that has been receiving a solid amount of interest from college coaches.
