October is here and we have begun updating all of our prospect rankings throughout the website. Two weeks ago, we released our first watch list for the 2026 class. The first rankings for that class will come out in January. Last week, it was all about the 2025 class. We’ve updated those rankings to feature the top 75 sophomores in the state. You can check out the full rankings RIGHT HERE. This week, we take a look at some of the top juniors in Oklahoma with an update to the 2024 rankings. You can check out the full rankings RIGHT HERE.
In this post, we’re taking a look at five of the best wide receivers in the state’s 2024 class. These are prospects listed as wide receivers. We’ll have a completely separate post for a look at the top tight ends in the state. Stay tuned throughout the week for more 2024 prospect breakdowns. And keep it locked in to Prep Redzone Oklahoma next week when we release our 2023 prospect rankings.
It’s been a bumpy ride for Booker T Washington this season. The Hornets had a slow start after playing a tough non-district schedule. Junior wide receiver Deuce Chalk Deuce Chalk 6’2″ | 175 lbs | WR Owasso | 2024 State OK and the Hornets are looking to finish the regular season strong and take some momentum into the playoffs. Chalk came into this season with high expectations after having such a strong offseason at various camps and playing 7v7. The Hornets have quite a few weapons on the offensive side of the ball, including one of the top overall prospects in the state with 2023 standout Micah Tease Micah Tease 6’1″ | WR Booker T Washington | 2023 State OK . So Chalk’s production this season has been somewhat limited. But we believe that Chalk is still trending in the correct direction moving forward. With Tease graduating, Chalk should have another strong offseason and then go into next year as the main target within the Booker T Washington offense.
Stillwater’s junior receiver Heston Thompson Heston Thompson 5’11” | 175 lbs | WR Stillwater | 2024 State OK first got on our radar last September when he caught what would be the game-winning touchdown in a game against Mustang that we covered. He had a solid sophomore season and that has carried over to the offseason and into this year. Similar to so many skill players, we watched the junior standout quite a bit this offseason while he played 7v7 for Sooner 7. He was outstanding this offseason and has clearly carried that momentum into this season, becoming Stillwater’s top receiver and one of the better big play threats within the Stillwater offense. Thompson isn’t the biggest wide receiver on this breakdown but he is right there among the best in the group when it comes to getting open, making catches and then finding away to get away from opposing defenses. Thompson and the Pioneers are hungry to finish off this season with a state title.
One of the first 2024 wide receivers we started covering and thought had some incredible talent is Union wide receiver Jino Boyd Jino Boyd 6’0″ | WR Union | 2024 State OK . As a freshman, Boyd got onto the field for Union, which doesn’t happen very often. As a sophomore, Boyd became Union’s leading wide receiver. This year, within a very balanced offense, Boyd is still having a very productive season as defenses struggle to find a way to contain the Redhawks on offense. Boyd is similar to Thompson where he’s not the biggest receiver prospect in the class, but it hasn’t mattered because Boyd runs crisp routes, gets open but it doesn’t matter if he also has a defender draped all over him, he finds a way to get to the ball and make the catch. Boyd has been a prospect to watch on the 2024 radar for us for a while now and more college coaches are starting to take notice. Look for Boyd to be one of the bigger difference makers during Union’s playoff run.
Oklahoma has seen a few players become legitimate dual-sport stars in the last few years and we have another with Southeast wide receiver Ladainian Fields Ladainian Fields 6’2″ | 180 lbs | ATH Del City | 2024 State OK . Not only is Fields the new #1 receiver in the state’s 2024 class, he’s a top ten overall prospect in our Prep Redzone 2024 rankings as well as the Prep Hoops 2024 rankings for basketball. Southeast is one of the better teams in the state that might be on the outside looking in on the playoff picture. They just ended up being in arguably the toughest districts in the state. The Spartans have some of the better skill players in Oklahoma and Fields is at the top of that list. He’s a highlight play waiting to happen. In the last season and a half, Fields has shown he can make plays as a big play wide receiver and as a defensive back. Fields should continue to see his recruitment explode as more college coaches end up seeing his film from this season.
Highlights
While Wagoner has been primarily known as a run-first team over the last 15 seasons, they’ve also shown that they can produce playmakers at the wide receiver position. One of the latest examples of that is junior standout Witt Edwards Witt Edwards 6’6″ | 200 lbs | WR Wagoner | 2024 State OK , who is arguably the most versatile athlete on this breakdown. Edwards could end up being a variety of things at the next level. We have him listed as a wide receiver right now. But with his tall frame, Edwards could get into a college program, add some weight and muscle and become more of a tight end prospect. Edwards also plays defense for the Bulldogs. He has been seen lining up at safety but we could see him moving closer to the line of scrimmage. Edwards is a good athlete that has some legitimate moves and speed for his size. We definitely want to see more of him moving forward but he is a prospect that is already on the radar and should start getting noticed.
