Every single Monday (even on Labor Day) on Prep Redzone Oklahoma, we’ll get the week started with a look at the top ten games across the state of Oklahoma. And this week, we have some absolutely great match-ups across the state. We will be seeing plenty of top five and top ten teams square off with other ranked teams from different classes. We also have a few top ten clashes featuring teams in the same class, that could very well be previews of semifinal or even championship games. But this week is headlined by a 6A-1 title game rematch, featuring the greatest football rivalry in Oklahoma today. Check back every Monday as we break down the top ten games every single week during the 2022 regular season.
1) #3 JENKS (2-0) AT #1 UNION (2-0)
It’s Jenks and Union. You don’t need anything else to hype up this match-up but there are still storylines galore heading into the annual Backyard Bowl. First off you have a rematch of last year’s 6A-1 title game. Then throw in the fact that Jenks is limping into this match-up with injuries everywhere on both sides of the ball. And finally, you have Shaker Reisig Shaker Reisig 6'0" | 185 lbs | QB Union | 2025 State OK . The sophomore sensation quarterback led Jenks to a state title last year as a freshman after making his first career start (you guessed it) against Union. And now he’s QB1 for the Redhawks heading into this massive title rematch. Both teams are 2-0 on the season but have looked very different from one another. Union has been absolutely dominant while the two-time champion Trojans have had back to back close games. But anyone who knows this rivalry knows, anything and everything could potentially happen on Friday night when it’s Jenks and Union.
2) #2 BEGGS (1-0) AT #3 REJOICE CHRISTIAN (2-0)
Rejoice Christian has had this one circled for a long time after what happened when these two squared off last year. The Beggs running back duo of CJ Brown and Red Martel Red Martel 5'11" | 195 lbs | RB Beggs | 2024 State OK absolutely gashed the Eagles, combining for nearly 600 yards and ten touchdowns on the ground. Brown is now a freshman at Oklahoma State but Martel is back and ready for more after looking impressive in Beggs’ season opener. Rejoice will counter with one of the best players in the state in quarterback Chance Wilson Chance Wilson 6'3" | 185 lbs | QB Rejoice Christian | 2023 State OK , who is coming off a 300 yards passing and 100 yards rushing performance on the road against Cascia Hall. Rejoice will be able to score points on Friday but can they slow down Martel and the Beggs rushing attack. In Rejoice’s win over Cascia Hall, they had a tough time slowing down the Commando run game.
3) 6A-2 #4 DEER CREEK (2-0) AT 6A-1 #4 MUSTANG (1-0)
We’re looking forward to this one between two teams ranked #4 in their respective classes and have state championship aspirations this fall. 6A-2’s #4 Deer Creek hits the road to face 6A-1’s #4 Mustang in a game that should be absolutely outstanding. Both teams have been dominant so far this season and this will be the first real test for both. Mustang’s passing attack was on fire in week one as quarterback Tristen Russell Tristen Russell 5'11" | 175 lbs | QB Mustang | 2023 State OK set the school record with seven touchdown passes. It’s going to be a little tougher this week as he faces a Deer Creek defense where the strength is without a doubt in their secondary. We think that both of these teams are capable of making deep playoff runs and potentially crashing the party by making it to a title game. We’ll get a good look at both squads on Friday when they go head to head.
4) 3A #4 METRO CHRISTIAN (1-0) AT 4A #3 POTEAU (1-0)
In another top five match-up, 3A’s #4 Metro Christian will hit the road to southeastern Oklahoma to face 4A’s #3 Poteau. Metro Christian was very impressive in their dominating win over NOAH in week one. Meanwhile Poteau had the week off after going on the road and taking down Bishop Kelley in week zero. The Patriots bring in one of the best quarterbacks in the state with 2023 QB Kirk Francis Kirk Francis 6'1" | 185 lbs | QB Metro Christian | 2023 State OK while Poteau counters with one of the best running backs that not enough people are talking about with 2024 RB Dax Collins Dax Collins 6'2" | 180 lbs | ATH Poteau | 2024 State OK . Francis is arguably the best passer among a very impressive class of quarterbacks. Meanwhile Collins is primed for a breakout season as he very well could run for more than 2,000 yards on the ground. This will give us a great idea of how each title contender is looking heading into the rest of September.
5) 6A-2 #3 MUSKOGEE (2-0) AT 5A #5 CARL ALBERT (1-1)
Carl Albert’s brutal non-district schedule continues on Friday at home when they host 6A-2’s #3 Muskogee. The Titans were able to bounce back from a tough road loss to Coweta by rallying to beat rival Midwest City in week one. Meanwhile the Roughers are looking fantastic as they dominated Putnam City in week one and improved to 2-0 on the season after going 2-8 last year. The Muskogee offense has the chance to be absolutely electric and they’re backing up all of the preseason hype that we had around the Roughers and their potential this summer. Meanwhile the Titans are going to lean to their running game because it was dominant last week as 2024 running back Xavier Robinson Xavier Robinson 6'2" | 225 lbs | RB Carl Albert | 2024 State OK is turning into a star after his 250+ yard and four touchdown performance in the comeback win over Midwest City.
6) #6 CASCIA HALL (1-1) AT #7 BERRYHILL (1-0)
Talk about the difference a week makes. Cascia Hall goes from facing a high-powered Rejoice Christian offense to hitting the road to face a Berryhill team that is like a mirror image of the Commandos. Both teams are going to rely on their running game and play stout defense on the other side of the ball. Anytime you have a match-up like this, there’s no doubt that the big play will be a big factor in deciding who wins this game between two top ten teams in Class 3A. The team that can break off a big play here and there will certainly have an advantage. The team that controls the ball and time of possession, while putting points on the scoreboard, will be set up for success this week. Cascia looks to bounce back following the tough loss to Rejoice while Berryhill looked impressive in their week one win over Fort Gibson.
7) 5A #8 NOBLE (2-0) AT 4A #4 TUTTLE (1-0)
5A’s #8 Noble goes from one ranked 4A team to another as they hit the road to take on 4A’s #4 Tuttle in week two. They had to rally from 27-14 down at halftime to knock off 4A’s #8 Blanchard with a 34-27 win. That should give the Bears plenty of momentum heading into this week two clash with Tuttle, who had a bye week in week one after winning in week zero. The Bears will bring in a potent passing attack with one of the better quarterbacks in the state’s 2023 class in Colin Fisher Colin Fisher 6'3" | 200 lbs | QB Noble | 2023 State OK , who is committed to Arkansas for baseball. The 1-2 punch of Fisher and senior wide receiver Brandon Harper Brandon Harper 5'10" | 165 lbs | WR Noble | 2023 State OK torched Blanchard in week one and they’ll look to continue that connection against a Tuttle defense that is rebuilt from last year but is still going to be one of the better defensive units in Class 4A this fall.
8) 4A #6 CLINTON (0-1) AT 3A #3 HERITAGE HALL (1-0)
Clinton’s tough Oklahoma City tour continues in week two as the defending 4A champs return to OKC to face off with Heritage Hall. The 4A champs got their season started on the losing end to Bishop McGuinness as the Irish gashed them through the air. Meanwhile Heritage Hall was able to score a tough win in tougher weather conditions over Millwood. The Chargers will also get a boost to their squad with the return of senior standout River Faulkner River Faulkner 5'11" | 205 lbs | ATH Heritage Hall | 2023 State OK at running back and linebacker. That’s bad news for Clinton as the Red Tornadoes are in danger of falling to 0-2 on the young season. These two teams are very familiar with one another after meeting for years in non-district play. The Chargers look to improve to 2-0 on the season with another impressive win this week.
9) A #7 HOMINY (2-0) AT 2A #6 PAWHUSKA (2-0)
Both teams got impressive wins last week and have plenty of momentum coming into this week. Class A’s #7 Hominy took down rival Cleveland last week behind their star quarterback Jaxon Woods Jaxon Woods 6'0" | ATH Hominy | 2024 State OK and Pawhuska got a little revenge by beating Cashion, the team that has ended their season in back to back semifinal appearances. Both teams are going to want to continue that momentum as both have tough district slates awaiting them and they’re both teams that are in similar situations in their respective classes. For Hominy, they’re definitely flying somewhat under the radar in Class A right now but they certainly have the talent to be in the championship picture in November. Then you have Pawhuska who is 2-0 and has looked impressive but they are in their first year in Class 2A, arguably the deepest and most competitive class in Oklahoma.
10) 3A #1 LINCOLN CHRISTIAN (2-0) AT 2A #5 VIAN (1-1)
3A’s top-ranked Lincoln Christian has been unstoppable so far in the first two weeks of the season. They took down two-time 3A champion Holland Hall in week zero and followed that up with another blowout win over 2A’s #8 Jones. They shift their focus to another top ten team in Class 2A as they hit the road and travel to southeastern Oklahoma to face Vian. The Wolverines opened their season with a tough loss at home to 2A’s top-ranked Washington. The Wolverines bounced back last week with a win over Eufaula. Friday night will be arguably the toughest opponent Vian will have all season as they try to slow down Lincoln’s high-powered offense, that is averaging over 50 points in the first two games and making it look easy. Vian will attempt to control the ball on offense and dominate time of possession.
