Imhotep vs. Bishop McDevitt

A dog fight went down at Chambersburg Area High School this past Saturday evening. Many of the untrained eye would say this game wasn’t as advertised, they couldn’t have been more wrong. Every positional matchup was a battle. Every unit had their work cut out for them, this situation is ideal when deciding who the best of the best are. The Imhotep defense was overwhelming at times. Scratch “at times”, the Panther defense was stout damn near every snap.
Hard to call Jahsear Whittington Jahsear Whittington 6'1" | 280 lbs | DL Imhotep Charter | 2024 State PA and Kenny Woseley “stock risers” after this game. We know of each prospect’s abilities. Yet the pair, Whittington in particular, flexed their muscles and acted as immediate impact players. Woseley dealt with what was presumably cramps during the second half, hampering his ability to shut down his side of the field. Still, Woseley showed that Power Five toughness and mentality, doing what he can to get back on the field and help the defense quiet the McDevitt offense. That he did. This is my first time seeing Whittington since the opener last Fall, now looking bigger, stronger, and more maturer than before. Whittington and David Johnson David Johnson 6'0" | 265 lbs | DL Imhotep Charter | 2024 State PA clogged pretty much every hole they occupied. Mikale Whitfield Mikale Whitfield 6'2" | 245 lbs | DL Imhotep Charter | 2025 State PA also stepped up and provided some solid reps inside.
The two most college-ready prospects on the field, Rahmir Stewart Rahmir Stewart 6'0" | 205 lbs | DB Imhotep Charter | 2023 State PA and Semaj Bridgeman Semaj Bridgeman 6'2" | 235 lbs | LB Imhotep Charter | 2023 State PA were by far a cut above the rest. That’s saying something considering the talent on both sides of the field. Call it kneejerk if you want, I don’t know of a more polished, college-ready duo on any defense in the state. Bridgeman often makes playing linebacker at this level too easy. I may have mistaken it for effort, Bridgeman just makes this all look too easy. The same sentiment can be said about Rahmir Stewart Rahmir Stewart 6'0" | 205 lbs | DB Imhotep Charter | 2023 State PA . Both prospects, against arguably the best QB/RB duo in the state, could care less about who they match up against. These two are real men amongst boys.
As far as stock risers go, a huge shout out to Naim Dantzler Naim Dantzler 6'0" | 170 lbs | DB Imhotep Charter | 2025 State PA and Corey Wright Corey Wright 5'10" | 165 lbs | ATH Imhotep Institute | 2023 State PA in the secondary. As stated before, both programs were dealing with severe cramping due to the heat and early-season form. Many were in and out of the secondary, yet the Imhotep coaching staff could rely on both when they were needed most. You can suggest that Dantzler and Wright proved worthy of any future reps or roles that the coaching staff could ask of them. A huge confidence boost for a program that has a state title squarely in its sights.
It’s early, but after seeing Zahir Mathis Zahir Mathis 6'6" | 230 lbs | DL Imhotep Charter | 2025 State PA work for the first time, I am not sure I can justify not making him the highest-ranked prospect in his class. Again, this is the first real test for the young man, a test he passed with flying colors. I had to continuously remind myself that he is just a sophomore, that’s how impressive he was throughout the entirety of this matchup. Real, elite speed. Real bend, bend that doesn’t lose power because of how balanced he is off the edge. This is only achieved through relentless practice. Don’t get me wrong, Mathis has some god-given abilities, he’s 6’6 for starters. Still, don’t chalk this kid up to being just a physical freak, I am starting to see work and technicalities be instilled into his game.
Can’t go without speaking on some offensive talent. Jabree Coleman Jabree Coleman 6'1" | 185 lbs | RB Imhotep Charter | 2025 State PA looks the part on film. He looks the part at camps. Take my word for it, he looks the part on the turf. I have watched plenty of great backs work throughout the years, Coleman is certainly deserving of everything coming his way. He has a natural glide in the open field. Most impressive is his feel for when and how to hit a hole, when and how to hit his second gear. The young man’s understanding of pace is certainly at the SEC level.
Now for the stock risers of the group. Huge shout-out to some new members along the offensive line. That being Anthony Richardson, a slim, 6’4 offensive lineman who is new to the site, as well as unranked Zafir Stewart Zafir Stewart 6'5" | 330 lbs | OL Imhotep Charter | 2024 State PA , who will quickly make his way into the top 20 of his class once we rework the rankings. Zafir Stewart Zafir Stewart 6'5" | 330 lbs | OL Imhotep Charter | 2024 State PA picked up huge offers out of Penn State and Boston College shortly after the game.
Another shout out to often-overlooked Mikal Davis Jr. Mikal Davis Jr. 6'0" | 200 lbs | QB Imhotep Charter | 2024 State PA No one cares who plays under center at Imhotep, as most of the shine goes to the stable of running backs deployed by the program each year, or to the ridiculous defense. I get it, but real recruiters who dive deep need to take a look at Mikal Davis. This kid is not a placeholder, he isn’t a handoff machine. Yes, Davis has plenty of areas to work on as a passer, yet the young man is a perfect fit in this offense. Davis’ capabilities of evading the pass rush is incredibly valuable, considering the defense will already have enough to deal with. A QB who can escape the pocket and run for 30 yards is icing on the cake. I was really impressed by Davis’ decision-making as a whole, he didn’t try to do too much. Happy to see him lead the offense.

The Bishop McDevitt offensive line was in for a tough night. Any unit that has to face this number of FBS prospects along the defensive line won’t sleep well before the matchup. The task proved to be a tall one for McDevitt.
Despite the tough situation, top overall prospect and nationally recognized recruit Stone Saunders Stone Saunders 6'2" | 200 lbs | QB Bishop McDevitt | 2025 State PA still impressed the hell out of me. Take the stats and toss them. Saunders was up against severe pressure from the defensive front seemingly every other snap. The times Saunders wasn’t touched were large in part due to his quick release. Saunders showed that he had to get rid of the ball quickly, he keyed his man before the snap and ripped passes to the boundaries to try to negate the rush. Good call by the McDevitt coaching staff too. Still, Saunders took his fair share of shots, many of which were on target 40-50 yards downfield. Talk about toughness as well, Saunders put up with what will likely be the best defense he faces all year. Could he have been better? Of course, yet I don’t think differently of the young man.
The McDevitt offense struggled all night, one kid didn’t and might be the lone bright spot on offense. That’s Tyshawn Russell Tyshawn Russell 6'2" | 185 lbs | ATH Bishop McDevitt | 2023 State PA , who narrowly missed landing on our top 100 list back in June. If he continues on this path, the sky is truly the limit for the young man. Russell was separating against this defense. Russell also took what was given to him from a leverage perspective, he can afford to do so with Saunders throwing the rock. Russell went for 8 catches, 155 yards, and the lone TD scored by the offense, including this incredible catch in the fourth quarter.
Little can be said about the McDevitt offense, they still put up a fight to the very last whistle.
The McDevitt defense had some standouts. Tough to call Slogik, Saunders, and Hopkins stock risers after this one, considering we think they are all FBS talents. Yet, it was nice to see our rankings justified in a setting like this. Slogik, who is new to the program, did all he could at defensive line. He did what he could to contain Davis and Coleman, coming up with plenty of pressures and TFLs. Slogik also flashed his ability at tight end with a big catch for the Crusaders. Happy to see him make an impression early at MCD. We also got slack for ranking Nevan Hopkins Nevan Hopkins 6'0" | 175 lbs | DB Bishop McDevitt | 2024 State PA this high considering his lack of recent tape. I think we can all walk away from that one impressed with his play at safety. He can put any haters or naysayers to rest with his week one tape.
Jaire Rawlison Jaire Rawlison 5'10" | 180 lbs | DB Bishop McDevitt | 2024 State PA also validated everything we spoke of. There’s nothing like seeing hard work rewarded on the field. Without the secondary and Rawlison’s efforts, this game might have been out of reach from the get-go. Check out both of Rawlison’s spectacular strip plays that flipped momentum in McDevitt’s favor. This is icing on the cake for Rawlison, who would much rather strap up your number one wideout than score touchdowns. He’s proving he can do both.
