Continue ReadingAs the football season is underway now, we have already had some truly exhilarating turnouts in the Bluegrass State. While I will be beginning to cover more recaps of top performers for each week along with game recaps of some top-ranked schools, I will be continuing my rankings for my all-state team for all state divisions. Today, I will be listing my players for the Class 2A team. As I have already covered in my class 1A all-state team ranking, most (if not all) of the players I have listed can easily play in any division level and can compete in the next level despite playing 1A ball. The same goes for Class 2A as there are some solid 2A recruits ready to be seen. I will be using the official database from the Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) to input player statistics.
QB: Russ Osborne Russ Osborne 6'0" | 170 lbs | QB Shelby Valley | 2024 State KY | 6-0, 165lbs. Class of 2024 | Shelby Valley High School, KY | Tape:
KHSAA QB Ranking: #2
2021 Football Season Stats: 62.8% completions for 2,455 passing yards, 19 Touchdowns & 9 Interceptions in 11 games played.
Russ’s arm strength is unmatched as he can haul 30+ yard throws to his receivers while on the run. His playstyle resembles much of Green Bay Packers Quarterback Aaron Rodgers since they both inherit a consistently accurate quick release throw that is always thrown into the perfect spot for his receivers to catch the football. Russ’s arm talent already helps prove he is an elite quarterback but he also possesses solid game IQ that he shows to prove he is a top tier quarterback in the state. Russ can read the field extremely quick and knows where the gaps are in the defense in order for him to take advantage of the mistakes. Since he has started his junior season, I expect him to further develop his game and further enhance his skills at Shelby Valley.
RB: Cole Crampton | 5-10, 195lbs. Class of 2023 | West Carter High School, KY | Tape:
KHSAA RB Ranking: #2
2021 Football Season Stats: 289 rushing attempts for 1,893 rushing yards & 24 touchdowns in 13 games played.
Cole is a dual-threat running back with the electrifying speed that can break defense with his quick jukes and he can sprint past the defense when receiving short passes from the quarterback. Along with that, Cole’s quick reaction time enables him to read open gaps quickly enough to find them and gain large amounts of yards. Whenever Cole is brought into the game, the defense has to solely focus on him since he is extremely difficult to stay in front of. Now going into his senior season, Cole is looking to maintain his top-tier running back play and also working to have an even better year shredding teams’ defenses out in West Carter High School. One way to describe Cole is that this kid can pretty much do whatever it takes to get his team down the field and score touchdowns.
WR: Wyatt Blythe | 6-1, 155lbs. Class of 2023 | Metcalfe County High School, KY | Tape:
KHSAA WR Ranking: #9
2021 Football Season Stats: 46 receptions for 804 yards & 14 touchdowns in 11 games played.
Wyatt possesses all-around talent at the receiver slot where he can jab past DB’s to get open for a catch, run out of a difficult scramble of defenders, and be able to leap high for a catch. Since Wyatt also plays DB for his team he has an advantage over other receivers where he knows what moves the DB’s will most likely make defending him. His corner route-running is nearly perfect as his leaping ability enables him to gain enough space to make any sort of catch thrown into the corner. This especially worked out for him on corner routes in the redzone, hence why he finished 2nd in receivers in state 2A for most receiving touchdowns. He is also extremely fast as he was recorded running a 4.54 40yd dash which helps him create more running room once he receives the ball.
OL: Wyatt Buffington Wyatt Buffington 6'3" | 300 lbs | OL Murray | 2024 State KY | 6-3, 280lbs. Class of 2024 | Murray High School, KY | Tape:
*KHSAA Rating N/A*
*2021 Football Stats N/A*
Wyatt’s strength is incomparable to any linemen in the entire state 2A class. The 6-3 junior helped protect Murray’s offensive squad to 2nd in state offensive rushing yards and 6th in total points scored. Wyatt can bulldoze multiple defenders at once to create a running gap for the ball carrier, and his help blocking is truly outstanding. As he is playing the Center spot, his ability to create running room even for short gain situations is spectacular, specifically in 4th & short scenarios. This kid is the real deal as he has participated in numerous power 5 school camps for linemen and has received interest from D1 schools in Kentucky. I expect him to continue helping Murray stay a powerhouse offensive team in the Bluegrass State until he graduates.
DB: Parker Chaney Parker Chaney 6'0" | 180 lbs | ATH Lexington Christian Academy | 2024 State KY | 6-0, 180lbs. Class of 2024 | Lexington Christian Academy, KY | Tape:
KHSAA INT Ranking: #2
2021 Defensive Football Stats: 6 Interceptions in 14 Games Played.
Past Analysis: If there were to be one player that could produce talent playing on both sides of the field, we would think of Parker Chaney Parker Chaney 6'0" | 180 lbs | ATH Lexington Christian Academy | 2024 State KY . Parker has a raw talent of being able to use his athleticism to intercept passes from the opposing quarterback and to receive passes from his quarterback. What is jaw-dropping about Chaney’s playstyle is his field vision. Chaney can predict where the ball is going to be thrown quickly and can also determine what angle to catch the ball when receiving at a bad angle. Parker will continue to improve his game and still be an elite threat on both sides of the field.
LB: Vincent Carrico Vincent Carrico 5'11" | 200 lbs | LB Owensboro Catholic | 2025 State KY | 5-11, 200lbs. Class of 2025 | Owensboro Catholic High School, KY | Tape:
KHSAA Tackles Ranking: #2
KHSAA Defensive Fumbles Ranking: #1
2021 Defensive Football Stats: 199 total tackles & 8 forced fumbles in 13 games played.
Vincent is a defensive stud in Class 2A, ranking 2nd in total tackles and 1st in forced fumbles with 3 of those he recovered. The sophomore Middle linebacker is one of the hardest-hitting defensive tackles I have seen out statewide. Vincent rushes toward an incoming ball carrier like a bull and hits them hard enough to knock out the ball out of their hands. The young man is excellent as zone reads as he knows where to position himself and the defense on where the ball is intended to go. His defensive IQ helps enable him to get to the right spot and make the tackle. Whenever Vincent is on the field, his presence alone makes it lowers the odds for the offense to further advance the ball down the field. He also was a huge contributor to leading his entire defense to be ranked the 12th best team defense in Class 2A ball. It is scary how he has only played one year of high school ball and he has plenty of time to further develop from just an elite LB to a top LB in the entire state. I expect him to get to that level very soon, maybe even this season for Owensboro Catholic.
DL: Xavier Campbell Xavier Campbell 6'0" | 225 lbs | LB Beechwood | 2024 State KY | 6-0, 224lbs. Class of 2024 | Beechwood High School, KY | Tape:
KHSAA Defensive Sack Ranking: #1
2021 Defensive Football Stats: 12 Sacks in 14 games played.
Xavier is an extremely hard-hitting edge rusher that is quick to get off the line and puts lots of pressure on the quarterback. The junior led the state in defensive sacks and also forced a few fumbles. What is remarkable about Xavier’s playstyle is that he creates numerous ways to cut through the opposing offensive line. He can break off opposing guards with an inside-n-out or uses his great hand skills to push off the guard to get to the quarterback. All of those ways were effective enough for him to lead the entire state 2A class in sacks. His strength should not be questioned either as he can throw down ball carriers with only his upper body. I expect Xavier to continue balling out for Beechwood in his junior season.
