Carrico’s defensive production is well-documented on this site, so it’s certainly not surprising to note the huge impact he had on his Aces’ big win over cross-town rival Owensboro High to remain undefeated on the young season. Even by his lofty performance standards, however, a final stat line of 22 total tackles (8 solos, 14 assists) and 1 tackle for loss is noteworthy. Aligning exclusively at an inside linebacker position in Catholic’s 3-4 defensive system, he is a compact, physical, downhill defender with exceptional leverage skills and the ability to keep his play side shoulder and leg free as he scrapes/pursues across the face of primary blockers. After finishing his sophomore season as the team’s leading tackler, he currently holds that position again this year while averaging almost 17 total tackles per game.
