The calendar has flipped to March and we’re a little under a month removed from Signing Day. It’s time to turn the page and start looking closer at the 2023 class as the next group of seniors in Oklahoma. In case you missed it, last month we updated all of our prospect rankings and released the 2023 Top 125. As of right now, only four prospects have given a verbal commitment with three of those four ranking in the top five of our recent update. They still have plenty of time with the first signing period not happening until December. But March is usually the time that things start picking up in the recruiting world and we could see that number start to rise in the next few weeks. But for now, we take a look at the four prospects who have already committed plus take a look into the crystal ball and predict who could be the next Oklahoma standout to announce a commitment.
Erik McCarty

– Running Back – McAlester
(Committed To Oklahoma On January 29th)
The most recent 2023 commitment came a little over a month ago when McAlester superstar Erik McCarty Erik McCarty 6'2" | 175 lbs | DB McAlester | 2023 State OK committed to Oklahoma while on a visit to Norman. McCarty is fresh off another spectacular season and was the winner of our 2021 Prep Redzone Oklahoma Player Of The Year award. While we have McCarty listed as a running back, he’s being recruited to Oklahoma for his abilities on the defensive side of the ball. Whether it’s as a linebacker or in the secondary, McCarty is headed to the next level. We can’t help but wonder what he could be as a running back considering the two seasons he’s just put together. But we also don’t mind watching him play defense as he’s one of the hardest hitters in the state of Oklahoma today. McCarty helped lead the Buffaloes to the Class 5A state title game where they fell short to Collinsville. With his commitment out of the way, expect McCarty to come back hungrier than ever this fall for a shot at redemption and another trip to Edmond.
Jaedon Foreman

– Defensive Lineman – Del City
(Committed To Oklahoma State On November 19th)
The first of two Oklahoma State commits is Del City defensive lineman Jaedon Foreman Jaedon Foreman 6'4" | DL Del City | 2023 State OK . The Del City standout committed to the Cowboys in November, becoming the first in-state commitment for OSU’s 2023 class. We’ve made no secret about how impressed we are with the job that Mike Gundy and the Cowboys have done recruiting Oklahoma in the last few classes. It appears that the 2023 class isn’t going to be much different. And it’s easy to see why. Just look at the impact players on OSU’s defense last year as they won the Fiesta Bowl. Loaded with in-state talent. Foreman is looking to be the next standout Oklahoman to join the OSU defensive line.
JaKobe Sanders

– Offensive Lineman – Stillwater
(Committed To Oklahoma State On January 25th)
The second Oklahoma State commitment certainly won’t have a long trip to his future school. Stillwater offensive lineman JaKobe Sanders JaKobe Sanders 6'3" | 285 lbs | OL Stillwater | 2023 State OK committed to the Cowboys in late January. This was one of the easier commitments to predict once the Cowboys pulled the trigger and offered the Stillwater big man. OSU has been the dream school of Sanders and shortly after the offer, the standout Pioneer announced his commitment. We’ve been high on Sanders since his freshman season. As a junior in 2021, Sanders settled in to what could be his natural position at the next level at center. We’re also on the record as saying that Sanders has the ability to be the next standout center to come out of Oklahoma like former Shawnee standout and current Kansas City Chief Creed Humphrey.
Luke Hasz

OK
– Tight End – Bixby
(Committed To Arkansas On January 22nd)
The very first 2023 commitment came from Bixby Luke Hasz Luke Hasz 6'4" | TE Bixby | 2023 State OK last summer when he announced his commitment to Oklahoma. Shortly after Lincoln Riley departed Norman for USC, Hasz would reopen his recruitment in early December. It wouldn’t take long for the Bixby All American to find his next home. After several visits to Fayetteville, Hasz committed to Arkansas in late January and has been a solid commitment to the Hogs ever since. Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman has Oklahoma roots and he’s treating Oklahoma and specifically the Tulsa metro area like it’s a priority in recruiting and that’s the way it always should have been. Former Arkansas coaches failed to realize that but Pittman is off to a good start recruiting Oklahoma. And if Hasz signs on the dotted line with Arkansas in December, Pittman will get the top ranked prospect in the state’s 2023 class.
CRYSTAL BALL
Cole Adams Cole Adams 6'0" | WR Owasso | 2023 State OK – Wide Receiver – Owasso
In a 72-hour span in late January/early February, Owasso wide receiver Cole Adams Cole Adams 6'0" | WR Owasso | 2023 State OK received offers from Alabama, Texas A&M and LSU. If Adams wasn’t considered one of the best wide receivers in this part of the country before, he certainly was after that three-day stretch. Since then, Adams has added two more SEC offers from Mississippi State and Tennessee. He’s also scheduled to visit Alabama this month.
Adams has been an impact wide receiver for the Rams since his freshman year. He’s been arguably their best playmaker since his breakout freshman season and with the Rams taking a hit at the position to graduation, Adams could be primed for a massive year this fall.
While the crystal ball is incredibly cloudy at this part of the year and we could see one of several prospects announcing a commitment in the next few weeks, we’ll go ahead and predict that it’ll be Cole Adams Cole Adams 6'0" | WR Owasso | 2023 State OK heading somewhere in the SEC. While the heavy hitters have come calling in the last month, don’t overlook Arkansas continuing their pursuit of the top prospects in the Tulsa-area.
