We were back on the road in Texas as Sooner7 went down to Plano for the second time in the last month to play in another 7v7 tournament. This weekend, we got to see quite a few new faces as Sooner7 rotated some players in that did not play in the last tournament and we got to see more talent, especially on the offensive side of the ball. In this post, we take a look at some of the standouts from the weekend and what made them shine during the event.
Anthony Watson Anthony Watson 6'0" | 220 lbs | ATH Muskogee | 2024 State OK – 2024 Athlete – Muskogee
One of the consistent playmakers for Sooner7’s 15U squad throughout the weekend was Muskogee 2024 athlete Anthony Watson Anthony Watson 6'0" | 220 lbs | ATH Muskogee | 2024 State OK . The Rougher standout played the tight end role in the offense and was a big target for the 15U squad and had a great chemistry going with his Muskogee teammate and 15U quarterback Jamarin Ficklin. That should come as a surprise to nobody as we’re on the record that the Roughers are going to be a team to watch over the next several seasons in Class 6A-2. Watson is a name that is now on our radar and we’re looking forward to seeing more of him throughout the offseason.
Brody Rutledge Brody Rutledge 6'3" | WR Sand Springs | 2023 State OK – 2023 Wide Receiver – Sand Springs
A big reason we love covering these events is getting a chance to see prospects that we haven’t seen in person or just flat out haven’t seen at all. That was the case this weekend when we got to see Sand Springs 2023 wide receiver Brody Rutledge Brody Rutledge 6'3" | WR Sand Springs | 2023 State OK . We’ll admit, we didn’t know Rutledge before this weekend but he had an outstanding weekend catching the ball and doing a little bit of everything on offense. He has good size, runs good routes and any time the ball was near him, he was making the catch. We’re excited to see more of Rutledge this offseason and even going back and watching some of his game from his junior season with the Sandites.
Cam Dooley Cam Dooley 6'1" | 185 lbs | WR Lincoln Christian | 2023 State OK – 2023 Wide Receiver – Lincoln Christian
While Brody Rutledge Brody Rutledge 6'3" | WR Sand Springs | 2023 State OK was the more consistent wide receiver this weekend, we’ll make the argument that the most valuable wide receiver for Sooner7’s White squad was Lincoln Christian 2023 wideout Cam Dooley Cam Dooley 6'1" | 185 lbs | WR Lincoln Christian | 2023 State OK . The Lincoln standout was always in the right spots at the right time and was making big catch after big catch. After watching video of the tourney, it seemed like every catch Dooley made was either a first down, a touchdown or a conversion. The Lincoln standout came up big in the biggest moments of the weekend. He even played double duty at times and played some safety on defense even though his offense was more than enough to land him here.
Jamarian Ficklin Jamarian Ficklin 6'1" | 180 lbs | QB Muskogee | 2025 State OK – 2025 Quarterback – Muskogee
We wrote about Muskogee 2025 standout Jamarin Ficklin last month following Sooner7’s first tournament. Ficklin was a standout on both sides of the ball at wide receiver and defensive back. This weekend, Ficklin was one of the two quarterbacks playing and also got some more run on the defensive side of the ball. The lefty showed that he truly is one of the top quarterbacks in the state right now in the 2025 class and is continuing to get better every time out. The more reps that he gets at quarterback, the more dangerous he becomes as an overall playmaker. We know his talents as an athlete. Add the passing element and he becomes a serious threat.
Kayden McGee Kayden McGee 6'1" | WR Muskogee | 2024 State OK – 2024 Athlete – Muskogee
The third standout from Muskogee is 2024 athlete Kayden McGee Kayden McGee 6'1" | WR Muskogee | 2024 State OK after his performance for the 18U Blue team from Sooner7. Out of the three Muskogee standouts on this list, McGee was the prospect that we knew the most about and even then, he still had something up his sleeve and came out and surprised us this weekend. McGee played on defense throughout the weekend and made big plays in the secondary at the safety position. McGee also played defensive back during their first tournament back in January. McGee then came back this weekend and showed out again on defense. Normally a wide receiver, McGee is showcasing an immense amount of versatility.
Kevon Robinson Kevon Robinson 6'2" | WR Coweta | 2024 State OK – 2024 Wide Receiver – Coweta
Along the same lines of Brody Rutledge Brody Rutledge 6'3" | WR Sand Springs | 2023 State OK at Sand Springs, another breakout star for us this weekend was Coweta 2024 wide receiver Kevon Robinson Kevon Robinson 6'2" | WR Coweta | 2024 State OK . The Coweta wide receiver was arguably the best playmaker that Sooner7’s 15U squad had and he made small plays into big plays and was consistently winning 50/50 balls over defensive backs. Robinson was a very physical wide receiver throughout the weekend and he also had the ability to out run defenses after the catch. And that is so difficult in 7v7 football where you just have to be tapped once. Robinson was still able to find holes and pick up extra yards, making him a highlight waiting to happen.
Mason Ford Mason Ford 5'11" | DB Coweta | 2023 State OK – 2023 Defensive Back – Coweta
Man it was good to see Coweta 2023 cornerback Mason Ford Mason Ford 5'11" | DB Coweta | 2023 State OK back in his element. And it was the second time to see the Coweta playmaker for me this week as I saw him on the basketball court while covering their game with Collinsville for Prep Hoops. Just like on the gridiron, Ford is a lockdown guard and was jumping out of the gym on Tuesday. Throughout the tournament, Ford was manned up on every opponent’s top wide receiver and he seemingly shut that receiver down. This was Ford’s first tournament after missing the January tourney in Plano. It didn’t take long for Ford to start shutting down opposing receivers.
Tagg Campbell Tagg Campbell 5'10" | DB Metro Christian | 2023 State OK – 2023 Athlete – Metro Christian
Our final standout was one of the best offensive weapons that we saw on Sooner7’s Blue team in the 18U division throughout the weekend. Metro Christian athlete Tagg Campbell Tagg Campbell 5'10" | DB Metro Christian | 2023 State OK was arguably their best wide receiver and he came up huge when we saw him in person on Sunday during bracket play. After a rocky Saturday in pool play, the blue team needed some magic to advance on Sunday. That’s where Campbell came in not once but twice with massive touchdown receptions and not only were they big catches, they definitely highlight-worthy catches. Campbell is a 2023 athlete that we are keeping our eye on because his stock is certainly pointed up.
