In their week 10 matchup Tuttle face district for and longtime rival Blanchard. Tuttle put their undefeated record on the line for the second year in a row in the final week of the regular season. In this article we’ll take a look at some of the leaders and top performers for Tuttle.
Canon West Canon West 5'11" | RB Tuttle | 2022 State OK SR- LB/RB 5’9” 180 Lbs
West was stellar for the Tigers on Friday much like he has been throughout his career in Tuttle. The senior running back carried the ball 34 times for 194-yards and both touchdowns by the Tigers. What West lacks in size he makes up for in toughness. Canon ran the ball tough all night and was the leader of the Tuttle offense. It’s very easy to see how Tuttle could make a run for the state title with the physicality that they showed on both sides of the ball. West isn’t just a between the tackle ball carrier, he has great quickness and vision that helps him get to the edge and provide a good balance in the Tuttle ground game.
CJ Conner SR- MLB/FB 6’0” 200 Lbs
Conner was fantastic all night. He made tackles that helped keep the Blanchard offense out of the end zone. Conner is a physical and imposing MLB and the leader for the Tuttle defense. He’s a very fluid athlete but also a punishing tackler. CJ came up big for Tuttle in the closing minutes of the game. Blanchard was down by one and knocking on the door, in a third and goal situation. Blanchard dialed up a quarterback keeper that looked like might give them the lead when CJ blasted the ball carrier and not only made the stop but also knocked the ball loose leading to a Tuttle recovery and sealing the win to preserve their perfect record.
The rest of the Tuttle defense-
The entire Tuttle defense deserves praise for the victory Friday night and the job they’ve done all season. They kept Blanchard from scoring an offensive touchdown all night and did everything needed to get the victory. This group flies to the ball and is as physical and dominant as any defense I’ve seen this year. If Tuttle makes a deep run like many (including myself) expect them to do, it will be on the backs of their stingy defense. They don’t take plays off and seem to really come alive in pressure situations. The closer the opposition gets to the end zone, the harder they play. They don’t give up and have some great athletes and leaders in the middle of that defense to make them a formidable force. That kind of play is exactly what teams need to hoist the gold ball in December.
Tuttle will face a good Newcastle squad in the first round of the playoffs. Their defense will once again be called on to help them advance past their first round foe.
