Harrah has a number of seniors that lead the way for them on both sides of the ball. Whether it’s carrying the ball, or tracking down the opposing teams ball carrier their upperclassmen definitely lead the way for each phase of their game plan. Heading into district play will be no small task with a district that includes several of the top teams in 4A. That being said here are a few of the guys that the Panthers will count on to shoulder the load this season.
Chadlee Humphries-SR-LB
Friday night against McLoud Humphries turned in a 13 tackle performance that included 1 TFL, 5 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles. He was very impressive tracking down the McLoud ball carrier and getting the football out of their hands. He also got after the quarterback as well as he’s done all year as was evidence by his 5 sacks and a few QB hurries as well. Look for the SR linebacker to continue to have high defensive outputs for the Panthers as the season continues. You can never have too many possessions especially come playoff time, and for the Panthers to make the run they expect to make they’ll need Humphries to continue getting takeaways and putting pressure on the opposing teams QB.
Nick Moore-RB
Moore was a load on the ground for Harrah rushing for north of 200 yards on 25 attempts. Moore also added a pair of touchdowns on the ground as well that helped to put the game away and let Harrah control the ball while giving their defense some well deserved breaks. It’s no coincidence that his play on the ground and allowing Harrah to be rested defensively lead to another shutout for the Harrah defense. I expect Moore to continue being the bell cow back for the Panthers this season.
Dusty Daigle- SR- ILB
Daigle is another senior LB for the Harrah defense that had double digit tackle numbers Friday night. Daigle really attacks the line of scrimmage and isn’t afraid to stick his head in there to mix it up with the guys up front. I was really impressed with the aggression he played with and is a big part of the Panthers defense that had the McLoud offense on their heels all night.
Mort Barber-SR-ILB
if you’re noticing a trend here it’s no accident. Like I stated the Harrah defense is heavily dependent on their SR leaders and Barber is another one of the Harrah LBs that turned in a double digit tackle game Friday. Barber plays sideline to sideline and showed great instincts on getting to the ball while also diagnosing the play before it takes place. He has great feel and anticipation for the game that will surely help the Panthers come district play.
Harrah was extremely impressive Friday pitching a shutout in an intense rivalry game while continuing to not allow a rushing TD on the season. I caught up with Harrah Football Head Coach Chris Bliek who had this to say about his team “One of our goals every season is to make the playoffs. This class of seniors has made this goal known and believes it to be the first step in putting Harrah back on the map when it comes to football. We have a great group of seniors that starts up front and on the defensive side of the ball that we believe can give us that playoff berth in what I believe is the toughest district class 4A.” That says it all right there from a coach who really believes he has a special senior class and it showed Friday night. Harrah kicks off district play next week vs Classen SAS.
