It wasn’t the season opener that Beggs was hoping for as they came to Tulsa and got blown out by Lincoln Christian 52-14. However, despite the loss, we saw plenty of prospects that ended up shining for the Golden Demons. Beggs is still a big contender in Class 2A and led by these prospects in particular, not only should they contend this year, but they’ll be in the conversation for a while.

We’ve seen plenty of film and also plenty of hype on social media about our first prospect. Because of that hype, junior defensive lineman

was at the very top of our list of prospects that we were excited to see in the Beggs-Lincoln Christian match-up. He did not disappoint. From the first quarter on, Jordan was an absolute wrecking ball up front for Beggs and he had the Lincoln Christian offensive linemen he was going against on absolute skates. Jordan isn’t the biggest defensive tackle in the state and questions about his size might limit some of his opportunities at the next level but they shouldn’t. This kid is the real deal as an interior disrupter. He’s incredibly skilled with his hands, he gets off the line in a hurry and he can just push his man back to disrupt the play. We’ll say this a few times, it wasn’t enough as Lincoln was able to put up 50+ points. But you can separate the team success from the individual success. The team might have fallen short on Friday night but Jordan was a one-man wrecking crew and he’s going to be a big problem for opponents in the future. Just a junior, Jordan still has room to grow and some time to improve and that should be a scary thought for the rest of Class 2A.

The top ranked senior prospect in the match-up on Friday was Beggs 2022 running back

. The Beggs standout has been committed to Oklahoma State for nearly a year now as he committed to the Cowboys towards the end of October in 2020. And he got off to a great start during Friday night’s game. His first carry went for 23 yards and that drive ended in a Beggs touchdown. However, that would be the only time that Brown would have a 10+ yard carry as Lincoln Christian did a really good job containing him and not allowing him to get into the open field. Beggs also had a problem with penalties as several plays and even drives came to an end early because of too many penalties. If Beggs cleans up that part of their game, Brown should be allowed to make some pretty special things happen. When he gets into the open field, he is absolutely electric to watch when he’s running the football. We’ll have more on his backfield teammate

. The 2022 standout came down to Oklahoma after playing his sophomore year in the Kansas City area. He spent his junior year at Okmulgee and is now at Beggs. He’s also coming off knee surgery and was sporting a brace on one of his knees throughout the evening against Lincoln Christian. But Bogard certainly looks the part and is a terrorizing sight to see coming off the edge, especially if you’re a quarterback and he beats your left tackle. Bogard stands around 6’5 and weighs close to 230 pounds. His quickness and power off the line was good enough to beat Lincoln’s offensive tackles on several plays and he put a pounding on their quarterback or running back. However, Bogard was very limited in his game action in the second half. Now, full disclosure, we didn’t ask about that following the game so it could have just been fatigue or keeping him out of the game because Lincoln had it in the bag. But when Bogard was in the game, he was an absolute problem. Combining him and Jordan makes this Beggs defensive line arguably the best defensive line unit in Class 2A. If he stays healthy, he’ll rack up a ton of sacks and tackles for loss this fall.

. In the 2024 prospect rankings for Oklahoma, Martel is listed as the fourth best prospect and the top running back prospect in the state. On Friday night, it didn’t take long for Martel to show why. On his first carry of the 2021 football season, Martel went 54 yards for a touchdown that put Beggs up 6-0. Martel took an inside carry, bounced off a few defenders, hit the outside and was off to the races. While Brown’s game is more of shifty and speed game, Martel has the complete package. He’s nearly impossible to bring down by just one tackler and he has the speed to bounce a run to the outside and outrun linebackers and defensive backs for a 50+ yard touchdown scamper. Martel ended up being Beggs’ leading rusher with nearly 130 yards on just eight carries. The 1-2 punch of Brown and Martel at running back will make Beggs one of the tougher teams to stop in 2A this year when it comes to the running game. It’s possible that both running backs end up over the 1,500 yard mark this fall. That would be something to see but ultimately, not that surprising when you’re talking about two of the best backs in the state.

for the Golden Demons. While Martel is more of that power back with speed, Grayson’s game appears to be similar to Brown’s where he’s a shifty, make you miss type of running back. Grayson didn’t get very many opportunities on Friday night as he is the third option at that position behind Brown and Martel. But the future is very bright for Beggs going into the next few years. They’ll lose Brown to graduation in May but the backfield shouldn’t miss a step going into the next few years with Grayson and Martel able to carry the load moving forward. Not many freshmen have our attention already but Grayson certainly does.
