Expert Analysis
Matt Morrow | Prep Redzone Scout
Weston has moved over to Mooresville High School for his sophomore year, but Weston showed a ton as a freshman quarterback at Ambassador Christian this past season. Weston threw for over 2300 yards and 21 touchdowns, showing some incredible arm strength and touch from all over the field while doing so. While Weston didn’t pile up a ton of rushing yards, he showed plenty of elusiveness within and outside of the pocket, as he was under pressure a good bit on his highlight film. That just makes what he was able to do even more impressive to me. Weston is getting some college interest now, with visits to Virginia Tech, South Carolina, and Appalachian State all happening in March.

Ambassador Christian has itself an elite young quarterback with a world-class arm. It’s not just the arm strength; it’s his pocket movement and anticipation that suggest he’s already an advanced passer. He’s not a true dual threat, but he can move a bit, both to escape the pocket and throw, and to pick up key yards in the red zone.

The phenom freshman continued his torrid start to the season in a 33-33 tie against Asheville School. Michalak threw for 381 yards and four touchdowns against a solid defense. The Ambassador Christian staff continues to trust their guy to throw it all over the field, and he stood in the pocket and delivered over and over. He has the arm strength, decision-making, and poise to thrive as a college prospect.

Let’s start with the only freshman to make a start at quarterback so far this season. It’s early, but Michalak has the look of a national recruit, with excellent size and one of the best arms I’ve ever seen from a freshman. His pocket movement and ability to throw on the run are already advanced, and he’s a guy I’m trying to prioritize seeing in person. It’s early, but he has No. 1 overall potential in the state.
