Expert Analysis
Robert Davis | Prep Redzone Scout
Shaffer has been busy proving his worth this summer across the camp circuit, and it’s time his name earned more buzz. A physical linebacker at the high school level, Shaffer projects as a defensive back at the next level thanks to his vision, range, and ball hawking skills. He’s not shy when it comes to contact, recording 102 tackles last season and he plays with a nonstop motor. Shaffer is also a threat in coverage, with soft hands that allow him to flip the field on takeaways. He can flying downhill in run support or lock down receivers in space as he brings toughness and versatility. Programs in need of a gritty, reliable defender who can make plays all over the field should give Shaffer a serious look.

Shaffer is listed at LB but is more of safety that can play in the box and be a difference maker. He is quick to get off of blocks and can make open field tackles. He has good hands and anticipation, being able to get out of his back pedal in a hurry and take the ball the other way. He has the speed to guard quicker slot receivers and has great vision in zone, reading the QB’s eyes to make a play. He will be looking to duplicate his success from last season and will be a player at the top of the list for INTs again.
