Big-time get for Slippery Rock Football. A top 350 senior announced his commitment after speaking with Coach Lutz and Coach Marella just last weekend.
Blackhawk Football’s Tyler Heckathorn Tyler Heckathorn 6'4" | 210 lbs | WR Blackhawk | 2025 State PA announced on October 7th his commitment to Slippery Rock University. The 6’4, 210-pound pass-catcher/EDGE rusher decided to end his recruitment after feeling welcomed among the brass over at SRU. To my knowledge, SRU was the lone program to offer the Blackhawk WR/TE. I praise the pitch from SRU, it’s tough to bring in a first-offer. Usually, prospects want to explore/play the field after getting a D2 stamp of approval, not Heckathorn. Slippery Rock is getting a top 30 pass-catcher among the 2025 PA class, under-rated commitment.
After a great talk with @lutzsru and @coach_marella i will be committing to Slippery Rock University!!! big shout out to my parents and my brothers for pushing me everyday!!!!#gorock💚🤍 pic.twitter.com/wYaxX8NzQt

Blackhawk utilizes Tyler Heckathorn Tyler Heckathorn 6'4" | 210 lbs | WR Blackhawk | 2025 State PA ‘s complete skillset all across the field. Heckathorn’s tape is going to provide quality OLB reps, his length and attitude on defense make him a solid weak-side linebacker option. The kid can cover ground, so TFLs and sacks will come naturally. I’m enamored with what he provides the offense when split out wide at receiver, however. I think his long-limbed body translates to WR at the next level, although the argument could be made for Heckathorn to gain weight and potentially play OLB, or even S. His stride, ability to stretch the field vertically and stack defenders when doing so gets me too excited for his potential at wideout. This kid could eat up hitches and slants for first-downs all the way down the field, his abilities after the catch are underrated, better than you’d expect a 6’4 pass-catcher to be. Blackhawk also likes to release Heckathorn when aligned tight next to tackles, plenty of production comes from this in-line alignment. Fantastic football player.

Quickly becoming one of my favorite 2025s on my Watchlist. Ideal frame for a wideout, a 6’4 body that can stretch a defense vertically. He can catch and locate deep balls too, not just a nine guy. His tape on the defensive side of the ball, hawking down ball carriers or rushing the passer at OLB, this is where the kid begins to intrigue me. Will surprise after the catch, has numerous reps where he catches slants or hitches and breaks free for extra yardage. Is strong enough to provide some blocking at TE if need be. Offensive instincts translate to the defensive side of the ball, often having him in the right place at the right time. Would love to see how he performs at Safety. Will rank high.
