Troy Velez Troy Velez 5'10" | 190 lbs | RB Geneva | 2025 State IL battled through injuries during his junior year but still managed to be productive in the 2023 season. He recorded 99 carries for 520 rushing yards and scored a total of 6 touchdowns. As a running back, he excels at quickly hitting open holes and getting downhill with full speed. Velez demonstrates great agility, making defenders miss with his ability to cut without slowing down. Additionally, he proved to be a valuable asset in the passing game, showcasing his ability to catch balls out of the backfield.

Velez is a 5’11, 180 tailback out of Geneva. He is a shifty running back, who possesses tremendous vision and balance. Combine that with his speed, Velez needs to be keyed on every time he lines up in the backfield. He has the unique ability to press run plays to the front side, while always looking for the cutback. Once Velez sees a lane, his quick burst and speed in the open field takes over. A difficult athlete to tackle in the open field, Velez only needs one cut to make a defender miss. While his junior campaign was cut short due to injury, Velez will be back for more next season as one of the most underrated running backs in the state.

Velez was one of the more underrated players in the state last year but won’t be considered underrated for long. The All-Conference running back from Geneva was more than impressive in his sophomore campaign. Velez measures in at 5’11, 180 lbs and runs much bigger than his frame. His first clip is one of the better clips you’ll see. As the tape rolls on, Velez continues to shine. He is an angry and physical runner, who gets downhill in a hurry and hits the hole with force. Velez possesses the ability to break tackles in a variety of ways, by either running defenders over, using juke moves, or flat out outrunning them. Long story short, if there is a defender in the way, Velez will get through him. Keep an eye out for Velez in his junior campaign, as he could very well finish the year as one of the top running backs in the state.
