Wardlaw just keeps growing, and it’s certainly helped his stock. And credit to the Grimsley coaching staff for putting him in a position he could grow into. Not too long ago, Wardlaw was a scrawny stand-up edge rusher who had to win with I.Q. and pure speed. Now, he’s a versatile, inside-out defensive end who can win with strength, moves, or his excellent first step, which he maintained while transforming his body. He’s bigger than his brother and has a higher ceiling, but he still doesn’t have the full pass-rushing arsenal that Jaiden has, putting Tristan just below him on the rankings.

Grimsley is one of several elite teams in the state that doesn’t update film or statistics until after the season, so while we’d heard Wardlaw was starting to break into the location, we didn’t see it until later in the year. He’s put on some good weight and has the physical profile to be one of the great power-speed guys in the state. He already pairs a great get-off with impressive raw power. He’s one with the potential to move higher on our list.

Wardlaw has been on our radar for a while, and we’ve heard he’s added some weight to his frame. Grimsley loses a decent amount of senior talent from its front seven, so the opportunity should be there for Wardlaw to take a step forward next season. This offseason, he’ll continue to add strength to his athletic build.

Playing on a loaded, undefeated Grimsley team with multiple top edge rushers, Wardlaw didn’t get much varsity run last season. In fact, he played just one varsity game, racking up four tackles, including one for loss. But the upside here is obvious. He has a quick get-off and he’s strong at the point of attack. We know he’s in a quality weight program and has quality coaching, so expect the playing time — and success — to come.

Wardlaw doesn’t have much varsity film, probably because he was playing behind one of our favorite seniors in the entire state, but he looks like the next great edge rusher from Grimsley. Wardlaw has a good first step and bend around the edge. He’s been in the weight room and I don’t expect him to play next season at his current size. He’s one to watch in the future.
