One of North Carolina’s top quarterback factories has another one, and we’ve already seen what Grimsley’s sophomore passer can do. Lowe filled in last year while current Tennessee Volunteer Faizon Brandon was hurt, routinely throwing for over 300 yards. The lefty passer has a great arm, and though quiet, he’s already a team leader. He excels at putting the ball in a spot where his receivers can run after the catch.

Grimsley keeps reloading at quarterback, and an injury to our top quarterback in the 2026 class last year makes Lowe a known commodity. Lowe navigated the season as the state’s top freshman starter, giving way for the final playoff push. Now, it’s his team, and the lefty has high expectations. Though quiet, he’s a true team leader, with excellent accuracy, arm strength, and decision making.

I covered the rising sophomore at a couple of 7-on-7 tournaments this spring, and he was lights out. Lowe consistently delivered the football on time and on target, showing outstanding ball placement, touch, and poise beyond his years. He processes the field well, makes quick decisions, and throws a very catchable ball. If his development continues at this pace, Lowe has all the tools to develop into one of the top quarterbacks in North Carolina’s 2029 class.

Grimsley probably feels a bit better about its chances of repeating after a season in which their senior quarterback went down with an injury, and Lowe stepped in admirably. The offense actually became more pass-happy with the then-freshman than the FBS-signed senior. Now, this is Lowe’s team, and the lefty is the clear top pick in one of the state’s best football counties.

It’s hard to overstate what Lowe did as a freshman. Backing up one of the top senior quarterbacks not only in the state, but in the entire country, Lowe wasn’t expected to contribute. Instead, an injury thrust him into the spotlight, and he looked comfortable. It’s not surprising that an offense would shift when going from an established three-year starter to a freshman, but the shift was shocking. Grimsley threw more and was more effective through the air. Lowe’s touch on deep balls is ridiculous, and his ability to throw accurately from multiple arm slots is unmatched for a guy his age. We’re convinced: he’s elite.
