Expert Analysis
Rob Howe | Prep Redzone Scout
Iowa City High has traditionally fielded a strong defense. So, when an underclassmen finds success on the unit, it’s worth looking into it. That leads us to Barnett, who piled up 21.5 tackles, 12 of which were solo, as a 10th-grader in 2025. He registered 6.5 tackles for loss, half a sack and a fumble recovery. Barnett plays basketball and baseball for the Little Hawks, and looks like a good overall athlete during his sophomore highlight video for football. He’s moved around the formation, where he makes plays from multiple locations. The first clip shows him looking like a classic middle linebacker flying to the football, while the second one features him coming off of the edge. The third frame has him lining up as an outside backer and crashing down on the run. It’s good instincts, quick reaction and explosion. Barnett has the tools to stick with receivers in coverage, too. He plays with toughness and embraces the game’s physicality.
