My first in-person scout of Kurtz happened during Week 5 of the 2025 season when the Little Hawks played host to Norwalk. He was splitting time at quarterback and flashed plenty of potential at the position. It was a developing passing game and a threat to inflict damage to the opponent with his legs. Kurtz completed 11 of 15 throws for 99 yards and a touchdown against an interception. He rushed for 49 yards and a score. The TD run highlighted his speed, quickness and strength. Only midway through his second prep season, Kurtz has time on his side. It’s worth seeing where he can take his quarterback play while also knowing his athleticism leaves doors open for other positions.

Another sophomore that will contend for starting snaps under center, Kurtz and Kabaiza’s skill sets are almost polar opposites. Kurtz, has a full year of the City High offense under his belt, has an excellent grasp of what he needs to do for the offense to be successful. Still growing, he has yet to tap into what he could do physically. If he can get bigger and stronger this offseason in order to take the hits and make the throws he needs to for the Little Hawk offense to move up and down the field, he could be hard to beat out.

Hailing from an athletic family, Kurtz contributed as a freshman for a Class 5A playoff team. That should get your attention. Put on his freshman highlight video, and we witness why he worked on the top team during his first year of high school. Kurtz’s speed provides an advantage against many opponents. It helps him corral ball carriers or run with receivers in the passing game. Kurtz reads the quarterback’s eyes, tracks the ball well in the air and breaks on it quickly. He ended up with 13.0 tackles and an interception in ’24 and a step forward is likely this coming season.
