During its rise into being one of the top teams in 5A the last two seasons, Liberty has utilized multi-dimensional skill position players. These dudes often deliver on both sides of the ball. It’s necessary with enrollment being 25th among 36 schools in the classification. Like the program’s standard bearers, Dallas Miller and Sutton Koller, Reiners operates with great tempo. He plays fast and competes all out on every snap. It was noticeable during Friday night’s win against Waukee Northwest. Quick-twitch traits and burst aid him when operating in space. They show up when the Lighting put the ball in his hands or defensively when employed in the secondary. There, Reiners quickly changes directions in coverage and gets downhill in run support. Against the Wolves, he contributed six receptions for 53 yards and a touchdown along with four solo tackles, a forced fumble and a pass breakup.

The Lightning needed someone to step up on offense after losing key contributors to graduation. Reiners showed during the 2025 season-opener against Cedar Falls that he’ll pick up plenty of the slack. The junior caught passes, took handoffs and complete a pass off of an option play. Reiners fits the mold of Liberty predecessors in his role as a multi-dimensional contributor on offense. He pulls it off with speed, athleticism, toughness and a good feel for the game. Reiners keeps defenses on their toes by making them prepare and react to his diverse abilities. They also make him an interesting college prospect and one to watch during the next two seasons.

emerged as a bright underclassmen standout for Iowa City Liberty’s secondary. Reiners recorded 31 tackles and 3 interceptions in 2024. Reiners should good ball-skills to snatch the pass from the QB, but his biggest strength was his ability to match the receivers’ routes step-by-step, maintaining a tight distance in coverage that allowed him to excel in coverage. Reiners also was solid in the run-defense, and despite his smaller size, he’s a tough tackler that will bring the ball-carrier down at the point of contact. Reiners should have a much bigger role in 2025 for the team as he should solidify his spot as a figurehead for the Lightning’s defense this year.

Reiners played an important role as a sophomore for a state quarterfinalist. He delivered 34.0 tackles (14 solo, 1.0 TFL) with three interceptions. Reiners individual game highlights on his Hudl page reveal an active safety that can step up against the run or stick with receivers. With graduation losses hitting the Lightning defense after ’24, Reiners will be leaned on even more this coming Fall. He should be ready to take the next step as a player and a leader.
