is a 5’10” 185 lbs safety that flashes all over the field. He made 72 tackles, 3 TFLs, 1 FF, and 3 INTs along with 12 PBUs in 2024. The film matches the stat line. Oliver is a kid that makes plays all over the field. He will aggressively, and quickly attack downhill when he reads run and make hard- hitting tackles. You can ask him to sit back deep in a zone over the top, read, and close on the ball in time to break up passes. The junior also has several highlights of him being in the right place at the right time. Oliver has a nose for the ball and an IQ necessary for the safety position.

Rankings Jump: Watch List Up to #30rnI have been looking forward to watching this film ever since the season came to an end, and it didn’t disappoint. The 5’10” 185 lbs safety demonstrated that he can do everything a safety needs to do. He can be asked to step into the box, avoid blocks, and make strong tackles. You can have him drop down to cover a slot receiver and show off the change of direction and acceleration. Where he is best is when he is allowed to roam his deep half of the field and read the offense. Wenning repeatedly shows in his highlights that he is quick to process and has the speed to be able to cover ground and get to the ball anywhere in his deep half. Oliver is a well rounded safety that has a lot of talent to tap into and develop.

was one of Middleton’s starting defensive backs as a sophomore, and was by far the best 2026 defensive backs at the Prep Redzone Wisconsin Showcase in my eyes. Just watching this young man early in Indy Drills, you just had to love the feel and instincts that Oliver has for the secondary as even as underclassmen, I love his football IQ and it will progress I am sure even more with a couple more seasons left within the Cardinals defense and having a older brother that plays in the FCS at linebacker helps his pedigree and defensive growth as well. Oliver also impressed me with his athleticism in Indy Drills, as watching him high top the football in the air just shows how well-versed his work ethic is and shows volumes of his ball skills. Expect to see another Wenning brother out of Middleton at the next-level in a couple years on the defensive side of the ball.

DB is usually the hardest position to fill up at these Showcases because everyone wants to play receiver. That isn’t the case on Sunday. The DB group is made up of several athletes that I believe will play at a high level in college. So it was hard to pick just one to highlight here. In the end I chose the athlete who has had me excited for his potential and future development since I first watched his tape early in the season. That is sophomore

who quickly carved out a starting role on a talented Middleton roster. Wenning is all over the field, has quickly developing instincts, and the athleticism to be able to cover large zones or man to man. I’m excited to see him in those man to man scenarios when we get to one on one battles this Sunday. Big things ahead for the sophomore.

Stats: 5 Tackles, 1 PBUrnI have been anxiously looking forward to checking out the up and coming safety out of Middleton. Oliver just wrapped up his second week at safety, and the quick film has me excited for his future. Right off the bat, I love that Wenning plays without hesitation when tackling. He flies downhill, and tries to run right through the opponent while wrapping them up. Too may times you see young athletes brace for contact. You don’t see that here. Oliver also has the range needed to be an impact player at safety. Not only to fill against the run, but also pick up receivers running deep and go stride for stride with them in one on one matchups. I’m very excited to follow this kid’s career. Make sure to have him on your underclassmen recruiting boards.
