Expert Analysis
Earnest Daniels | Prep Redzone Scout
Michael Scalfani is one of the most complete linebackers in New Jersey. He diagnoses plays quickly, excels against the run, and holds his own in coverage from the overhang. His instincts and positioning stand out on tape. At 6’1”, 215, he checks the size and athleticism boxes for D1 coaches. He recently committed to Columbia, but his ceiling might push him toward the Transfer Portal in a year or two. Currently ranked as Prep Redzone’s No. 10 linebacker, he’s trending toward the top five. Scalfani’s game is built for bigger stages, and this season should prove it.

earns the superlative for Smoothest Athlete, and his film backs it up. At 6’1”, 190 pounds, he moves quickly, effortlessly covering ground in both coverage and run defense. Whether tracking a ball carrier from the backside or dropping into space, his fluidity allows him to make plays all over the field.
Sclafani’s versatility is a significant asset for Delbarton. He consistently impacts the game in multiple ways, yet he remains one of the more underrated defensive players in New Jersey’s 2026 class. This season could be his breakout moment as he looks to establish himself as one of the top linebackers in the state.

from Delbarton. Sclafani plays both high and low – matching the hand when he does not get home to the quarterback, while tackling low. In the short game Sclafani has shown that he can run with the slot receiver well. Able to read keys, Sclafani flows and rallies to the ball well. When pass rushing we see the junior deliver power at times. Quickness is a part of his game too, as Sclafani is used often – and is often successful – at getting home on interior gap exchanges.
