Schmitz is a guy that passes the eye test and could be ready for a breakout in 2026. He got his feet on the Ankeny Centennial varsity last season, rushing for 51 yards, taking his lone kick return back 24 yards and adding a receiving touchdown, missing Weeks 3-7 with a hip injury. According to his Prep Redzone profile, he has since transferred to Waukee Northwest, where there should be an opportunity for carries this coming season. When we watch his 10th-grade highlight video, there’s reason to believe he can run with it. It kicks off with him hauling in a short pass and making defenders miss in space for a 10-yard score. The second clip shows him lining up as an H-Back and blowing up the linebacker on a block. On Clip 3, we witness the 24-yard kick return, when he shows ability in that phase, too. A smooth runner with elusiveness and burst, Schmitz can operate between the tackles or get to the outside. He’s a good receiver and blocker, making him an every-down back.
