is having a strong senior season for the Patriots and has showcased his ability on both sides of the ball this year. He’s a quick, twitchy athlete who has proven he can be an offensive playmaker at receiver and running back this season on top of his known defensive prowess. Sands is second on the team in tackles with 54 as a highly productive safety prospect. He plays fearlessly in space, with his wrestling background aiding him in that regard. Sands is a sure, physical tackler and is very good at coming downhill, with the athleticism to make plays in coverage as well.

The Wheeling Park Patriots had a big road win over the defending state runner-up Spring Mills Cardinals in week two, and got a good defensive performance from 2026 DB

. He finished the game with 10 tackles and 3 pass deflections to help limit Spring Mills’ passing game. Sands did a nice job attacking downhill, breaking on the ball in coverage, and playing in space against a team that has a lot of athletes at their disposal.

A stock riser in our 2026 rankings this summer after seeing him in person at our Combine Series camp was Wheeling Park DB

. He’ll make an impact on offense for the first time in his career this season as well, but has been a standout safety for the Patriots since his sophomore year.
Here’s what we recently said about Sands in our 2026 Rankings Stock Risers article:

in person earlier this summer made us realize we had him ranked too low. He’s made waves as a wrestler this winter, but has a lot of football upside, too, as a prospect. Sands had a very productive junior campaign for the Patriots and will be a leader on their defense this season. He’s a safety prospect who’s comfortable patrolling the back end of the defense with the physicality to get downhill in the run game, too. Sands is currently unoffered according to his X account, but that will change this fall for both sports.”

was one of the best defensive backs in attendance at the Combine Series camp. He had a productive junior season for the Patriots on the football field as a safety with 52 tackles and 3 interceptions. Sands is picking up serious looks from D1 programs for wrestling and has a physical build that you expect from that type of athlete. He performed well in 1-on-1s for being a safety prospect and did a nice job of executing coverage, not typical of players at his position. While he may wrestle in college, Sands has the ability to play DB at the next level as a scholarship-level player as well, if he wants to continue playing football.

A young safety prospect that I like is Wheeling Park’s

who had a productive sophomore season for the Patriots. Sands totaled 28 tackles, 7 passes defended, and 2 interceptions during his sophomore campaign on a Class AAA playoff squad. He saw varsity time as a freshman at Wheeling Central Catholic before transferring over to Wheeling Park where he became a starter. Sands is a versatile DB who can play as a center fielding deep safety or creep into the box to fit the run but also line up over a slot receiver. He has good pursuit and recovery speed while also being quick enough to make a tackle in space. I like his natural instincts at safety and he appears to have a high football IQ for his age. Sands does a nice job reading the play and putting himself in the right position to make a play on the ball and on a ball carrier. A bit undersized right now at 5’8 165, but he has time to keep growing and getting stronger which will benefit his game even further and raise his ceiling.
