We at Prep Redzone Iowa last wrote about “Gio” eight months ago following his sophomore season at Des Moines East. He transferred to Southeast Polk for the 2025 season, and it certainly was time to check in with how it unfolded in Pleasant Hill. The short answer is quite well. The big man earned second-team all-Group honors on the offensive line. He passed the challenge of facing the state’s top competition with flying colors. Wilson’s game revolves around power with agility added in to project as a productive performer on the next level. We can witness what that looks like when viewing his junior highlight video. First, he grew an inch, dropped 10 pounds and improved his stamina. Wilson is a monster in the run game, overwhelming D-Linemen regularly and pushing them back on their heels. He’s sets up quickly in pass protection, uses his hands well and stays balanced. The upside here is significant. This kid should be getting more love along the recruiting trail.

Wilson stood out as a sophomore last season at Des Moines East, where he was a second-team all-district selection on the field and academic all-district off of it. He’ll join the four-time defending Class 5A state champion Rams, adding to an already strong returning front. That’s potentially worrisome for future opponents when we watch Wilson operating during his 10th-grade highlight video. He’s an athletic, long-limbed tackle that can move. Wilson’s ceiling is considerable if it all comes together. He already has a good feel for the position, smoothly reaching blocks in space and moving well laterally. Wilson enjoys physicality and playing through the whistle.
