About Cortez
Expert Analysis
Tyler Graham | Prep Redzone Scout
One of my favorite two-way players in the state! Cortez continues to prove why I’m so high on him every time I see him play. He has an extremely high ceiling at the DB position as he’s great in man coverage, showing fluid hips, good burst and the ability to stick with receivers. Offensively he has been a real weapon for Davison, hauling in some big catches when targeted. He’s a high-motor guy that can play both ways effectively, which I love. I will keep vouching for Cortez any chance I get, he is the real deal.

Cortez is still a super underrated player in the state of Michigan. This kid is just a flat out competitor. He loves being in man coverage and takes pride in being able to pick off and deflect everything coming his way. He doesn’t get beat with double moves and doesn’t get beat out with speed. He is physical enough to battle bigger receivers and make their life extremely difficult. When I saw him against Oxford, I noticed him more than once shed a block to make a play on the ground as well. I really like what Porter has to offer at DB for someone at the next level, should he decide to go the football route.

Cortez did a really nice job all night long of staying with his man and staying in stride. The only times he got separated, he was able to close the distance with some elite speed. He was able to get physical and jam guys as well, and went up and contested everything. Cortez even had a pass deflection in the end zone on a bigger receiver where he was able to get great position, and he went up and batted it away. He was someone I wasn’t too familiar with, but I was shocked to see he is only a Sophomore. He has an extremely bright future ahead of him if he continues to develop!
